TIPS/COMMENTS

BY STAN

In our Mustang world there are things that happen that are not funny and not fun at the time.  One of our members, Diane Williams bought a nice 1965 Mustang convertible and immediately she had overheating problems. After much time in the shop and a new engine and cooling system the heating problem went away.  She wanted the engine compartment to look nice so a new alternator was added.  Soon there were charging problems.  While coming to the Woodard Dream Cruise the alternator quit completely.  After going to the parts store and buying a new alternator she finally got to the Dream Cruise.  I once bought a new alternator, because I wanted to have it all new, shiny and with the correct numbers.  It soon failed.  On the box it said that it was American made. I think that the parts were made overseas and assembled here. Then at the Woodward Dream Cruise one of our members had their new shirt and shoes stolen.  Also another member put their car keys in their jacket pocket, another member took the jacket to get the name put on it.  After many phone calls someone had to drive to Detroit and bring another set of keys.  These are some of the things that happen that you can only laugh at afterwards.

A big thank you to Mike Winter for organizing the caravan to the Woodward Dream Cruise.

Still lots of things going on this year, and one of the big things are our show at the Birch Run Expo Center.  On Saturday Sept. 15th at 5:00 pm we put up the fence and tent for the next day.  We make last minute plans and then go somewhere and eat.  The next day is the big show.   This is a lot of work but also a lot of fun.  After the show we take down the fence and then go and eat. We love to eat!!!!  Everyone should wear their name badges so we can get to know you.

Join in the activities and enjoy the club and the people.

Our elections are this month, don’t forget to vote and return your ballot.

Remember don’t be a stranger.

A college education seldom hurts a man if he is willing to learn a little something after he graduates.

Girl: “Too bad you flunked the test. How far were you from the right answer?”

Boy: “two seats!”

There’s one great thing to be said for a college education. It enables you to worry about things all over the world.

Introduction of new members: Jim Church of Saginaw, Al & Pam Cabadas of New Hudson and Mike Young of Burton.

Treasurer’s Report: Report read by Gary Strappazon and approved.

Sponsorship Report: Tom Welsh reports that MCMM has not received the complete payment from Saginaw Valley Ford.  It was decided to deduct the money from the payment received for the newsletter ad and the flyer ad and return the remaining money to Saginaw Valley Ford.

Property Report: Gary Riley reports that the club has purchased 13 tables from the club members’ donations.

Club Clothing/Merchandise: Gary Riley reports there are jackets, magnets & window decals available.

“Be Cool” Car Show: Dick Lebsack reports that the “Be Cool” Car Show now has a website.  www.becoolcarshow.net

MCMM Car Show: Gregg Glaviano reports that set-up will be on Saturday, September 15th starting at 5:00 pm.  He also stated that the trophies have been ordered.  There will be 3 class trophies per class and 6 Best of Show trophies.  The tent has been ordered and it will be 20’ x 30’ this year.  Lon Hetchler will also bring a 10’ x 10’ tent.

Lon Hetchler & Paul Wrigglesworth will bring generators.  All members are encouraged to come out and help at the show.  If enough people come it means that no one person has to do a job for the entire day.  Members are reminded to wear club shirts and/or name badges so you can be easily identified as a club member.  Some chairs are being provided but bring your lawn chair.

Goody Bag Stuffing: Gary Riley reports that the pavilion is reserved at the Thetford Township Hall, 4013 Vienna Rd., Clio, MI.  (Take Exit 131 to M-57 and go east for 5 ½ miles.)  The stuffing will start at 6:00 pm while there is still daylight.   Contact Gary Riley (810) 631-6601 for more information.  PER GREGG GLAVIANO, SHOW CHAIRMAN, MONEY WAS SAVED FROM THE SHOW FLYER PRINTING SO THE PIZZA AND POP WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE CLUB.

MCA National Show: Many concerns regarding this show were expressed by the membership.  The biggest concern was the financial aspect of the show including the $9,000 park rental.  A motion was made and carried that Gary Strappazon and Charlie Reinhardt hold a separate meeting before November to go over these concerns with the club members and bring the membership up-to-date on what has already been done and what needs to be done and when.  Gary Strappazon reported that some subcommittee chairmen are already in place: Registration – Ruth Bentley, Security – Del Zimmerman, Judging – Stan Bentley, and Advertising/Sponsorship – Dick Lebsack & Charlie Reinhardt.  Parking and Grounds/Lodging still need a chairperson.

MOCSEM Car Show Judging: Quentin Levitte reported that it was a really enjoyable event.  MOCSEM gave Meijer gift certificates to all of the judges.  Also MOCSEM donated $100 toward our trophy expense.

Woodward Dream Cruise: Mike Winter reported that a CD has been made with pictures of the WDC.  A thank you and a copy of the CD will be sent to Joseph Ford.  Copies of the CD will be sent to the Historian and to the Webmaster.

Loons Game: Dick Lebsack reported that MCMM members Paul Wrigglesworth, Diane Williams, Rose Maier and Jim Wentworth attended the game.  Their Mustangs were featured at the stadium.

MCA Regional Director: Stan Bentley reported that there will be an official presentation of the President’s Award at the Grand National show in Augusta, GA.  He has notified MCA that he will be at that show.  The MCA membership dues are being raised to $40 a year effective in November.

MCMM Christmas Party: Lon Hetchler reported that the venue for the Christmas party has been changed from the Bay City Yacht Club to the Four Occasions Hall in Millington.  He stated he was having difficulty getting a reservation commitment from the Yacht Club, in addition he was told that for the same food that we had last year they could guarantee him that the price increase would be up to $2.00 per person increase.  So the change was made and the date has been set for Sunday, December 2nd.  More information will be in future newsletters.

MCMM REGULAR MEETING CONTINUED

Board of Directors Nominating Committee: Quentin Levitte reported that the slate of officers has been set for the election.  Dick Lebsack opened it up for nominations from the floor.  There were none.  (See the enclosed ballot for the slate of officers.)

MCMM Brick: Dick Lebsack reported that our MCMM brick is in place at the Saginaw Veterans Memorial Plaza.  It is near the base of the flagpole.  This brick was donated by the Saginaw Veterans to thank us for all we have done for them with our Show & Shine contributions.

Frankenmuth Autofest: Gary Strappazon reported that the Friday Night Cruise is September 7th.  Parking will be available at Gary’s house starting at noon.

MCMM Constitution: Dick Lebsack reported that the revisions have been approved and the constitution is in the process of being retyped.  It should be ready for the next meeting.

Fall Hayride: Lon Hetchler has prepared a Fall Color Tour in lieu of the hayride.  It will be held the weekend of September 28-30.  Plans are to have dinner on Friday night the 28th at the summer home of Lon & Sandy Hetchler.  Saturday will be spent traveling to see some picturesque northern scenery.  Then we will return to the Bellaire Inn for the night.  Lon took a count of people that would be interested in the trip.  He will try to get a better deal now that he knows at least 10 people are interested.  If this sounds like something you would like to do or you need more information give Lon Hetchler a call (810) 793-6287) so he can make the reservations.  This is prime time for color tours in that part of the country so our reservations will need to made quickly to assure that we have lodging.  Even if you indicated at the meeting that you were interested you will need to contact Lon to confirm getting a reservation.  Reservations should be made with Lon by Monday, September 10th.

New Business: Bob Dillenbeck reported that the Saginaw Children’s Zoo will have a car show on Monday, September 3rd from 8 am – Noon.  The registration is $10 but that includes two free tickets to the zoo.

Respectfully submitted, Linda Kabobel standing in for Diane Williams

THE PREZ SEZ

Well our car show is just a couple of weeks away and we are ready to go.  We will stuff the goody bags on Monday, September 10th starting about 5:30 and ending when done.  Gregg says MCMM will provide the pizza.  We hope every member can participate in the big, fun event of the year on Sunday, September 16th.  We start about 7 am.  Gregg Glaviano has the master sign-up sheet.  Please give him a call (810) 659-7165 or just show up and we will find a position for you.  Bring your favorite car and put it on display with the other club members’ cars.  Let’s have 100% participation!

The nominating committee for the 2008 BOD submitted these names:

President          Charlie Reinhardt          Car Show Co-Chair        Quentin Levitte/Stan Bentley

Vice President  Lon Hetchler                 Membership Co-Chair    Rose Maier/Linda Kabobel

Secretary          Diane Williams              Newsletter Editor          Ruth Bentley

Treasurer          Gary Riley                    MCA Regional Dir.         Stan Bentley

Nominations were opened at the August membership meeting.  No one else was nominated.

Check out the information on the fall color tour pony cruise located at Shanty Creek in northern MI.  Lon Hetchler is putting this together for late September.  Check this newsletter for more information.  This should be a beautiful trip.

The membership seems to be pleased with the new meeting place – Captain Hooks restaurant in Frankenmuth.  Our next regular club meeting is September 17th at 7 pm.

The MCMM will have the annual Christmas party in Millington at the Four Occasions Banquet Hall on Sunday, December 2nd from 2-5 pm.  Lon & Sandy Hetchler are organizing this for the club.  Put this on your calendar now!

Bob (Burnout) Dillenbeck gave me a copy of the Sunday, April 27, 1975 edition of the Saginaw News classified section.  I just happened to look under the Classic Car section and discovered this ad: “Shelby, 1968 GT 500 convertible, Texas car in good condition, $2,950.”  Can I get two of them?

Ford, Kellogg’s, Target and Hot Wheels have teamed up to produce Kellogg’s Hot Wheels Cereal.  Inside the box is a Ford Hot Wheels Collectors Card.  Collect 1, 2 or 3 cards featuring the same vehicle and you could win the “Real Deal”!  The cereal has a coupon on the side of the box for a free Hot Wheels toy car.  The cereal can be purchased only at Target.

Double congratulations to the Brunner’s.  I would like to congratulate Charlie Brunner, MCMM member from Bay City.  He was the top vote-getter in the August 7th primary election for mayor in Bay City.  It was also his 25th wedding anniversary.  His wife Judy surprised Charlie when she asked the current mayor to perform the ceremony to renew their wedding vows that night during the election returns party.  I was in the wedding party for the big event.  Congratulations to both Charlie and Judy.

Loons Baseball Game: In the seventh inning, the MCMM members at the Loons game stood up and sang the “Take me out to the Ballgame” song.  The weather was fine and several members had their cars on display (Jim Wentworth, Paul Wrigglesworth, Diane Williams and Rose Maier) for the “Turn Back the Clock” Day.  The Loons were dressed in vintage Saginaw Bear baseball uniforms from 1948.  It didn’t help them to win the game.  Members that had tickets were: Diane Williams and granddaughter, Gina Dillenbeck and friend, Linda Kabobel and brother Mark and his wife, Chris Jansen and family, Tom Welsh and family, Rose Maier and family, Jack Morton and family, Jim Wentworth and family, Paul & Cynthia Wrigglesworth and Dick Lebsack.

Woodward Dream Cruise: A big thank you to Mike Winter and company for organizing the annual trip to Woodward.  It was a fun time for me as it was my first time at this event.  Al Rogers got us started as a club group to go to this fantastic event.  We had one glitch – a set of keys that went home with Gary Riley by mistake.  The owner of the ’66 Mustang keys was able to call home and have his daughter bring him another set.  Ken Bayard, club member who owns the Michigan Mustang Website won the Carroll Shelby car hood with Carroll Shelby’s signature at the WDC.  Ken & wife Merri are expecting their first child on September 10th.  Congratulations on both of these big events

MCMM To View 2009 Site: Charlie Reinhardt & Gary Strappazon will set up a time & date for all club members to view the site of the MCA 2009 car show.  The date should be sometime before November, 2007.

See you at the MCMM Car Show

Keep Smiling, Dick Lebsack

MCMM JUDGING FOR MOCSEM

REPORTED BY QUENTIN LEVITTE

The rain had just started to really come down as we entered the north end of Frankenmuth.  Gene & Vic Trisch were following about 200 hundred yards behind trying to keep their yellow Mustang out of the spray.  It was a losing battle at best.  We were headed down to M-59 and US-23 to meet up with those folks who had promised to help with judging of the MOCSEM members cars in Livonia.

As we drove I told Pat that our cell phone will probably start ringing as people would back out of their commitment because of this rain.  Just as I finished saying that my phone rang and it was Tom Volpe saying he was about 10 miles behind us but would catch up before too long.  I also told Pat I wanted to get to our meeting place a little early thinking I would need to make some calls.

We pulled into the McDonalds 20 minutes early and most of the judges were finishing up their breakfast and asking why I was running so late.  I knew right then it was going to be a good day rain or shine.  I also quietly told Pat we had joined the right club.  With breakfast over and extra coffee in hand we headed out for the Greenmead Historical Park, home of the MOCSEM annual All Ford Show.

After registering and cleaning our cars we met with Neil Holcomb, President of MOCSEM.  He went over the criteria for judging one last time and we broke up into four groups and began judging the 90 or so member cars.  About three hours later we finished and I hope the MOCSEM members were happy with this arrangement.  I know I was happy with the work done by Ruth & Stan Bentley, Gregg Glaviano, Lon Hetchler, Del Zimmerman, Chris Jansen and his father Jim Jansen, Rick Nash, Tom Volpe, Dale Rondo, Leif Johnson, Paul Wrigglesworth and Larry Blymyer.

I do know I was proud to be a member of this club on that very hot and rainy Sunday in August.

To show their appreciation, MOCSEM sent a very nice thank you letter and a Meijer Gift card for each of the judges.  Our club also received a $100 donation for our show.  Thank you MOCSEM, your gratitude and support are greatly appreciated.

2007 MUSTANG ALLEY AND WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE

REPORTED BY MIKE WINTER

We had a wonderful turnout and weather for our 2nd annual “Cruise to Mustang Alley” on Saturday, August 18th.  There were 26 cars that arrived at Joseph Ford in Grand Blanc to line up and caravan together.  Even though Diane Williams thought the day was over when she arrived with the alternator light glowing on her ’65 convertible, she was able to get it repaired and met us at Mustang Alley along with 4 others for a total of 30 MCMM club and guest cars.  The Motor City Terminators and the Ford crew did a fine job of organizing the event and getting us group parking.  We spent the day looking at lots of fine Mustangs and other Hot Rods along 9 Mile and Woodward.  Later that afternoon a group gathered and headed up to Flint for the “Back to the Bricks” event to finish off the day.  The rest of us finished the day out cruising along Woodward.  The only casualty was a missing (try STOLEN!) T-shirt and a pair of shoes.  Lots of show fliers and membership applications were handed out throughout the day.  I hope next year more members will be able to join us.  A big thanks to Bill Luttman and the gang at Joseph Ford for opening up the gates and building at 6 am for coffee and the use of their facilities.

Hello to Everyone,

After a great MCMM car show, what would be better than to end the summer in Michigan with a fall color tour with fellow club members and their cars on the weekend of September 28-30th?  Five rooms have been set aside, but more could be available for the Mustang club at the Bellaire Inn (231-533-7777).  You will need to call and make your own reservation and tell them you are with the Mustang club.  The room rate is $85 per night which includes all those nasty taxes etc.  You can check out the hotel at www.bellaireinn.net.  We will leave from Midland at 1:00 pm and travel to Bellaire.  Sandy and I will have everyone to our cabin Friday evening for pizza.  Saturday morning we set off for Mackinaw City, Charlevoix, East Jordan, Petoskey and Mancelona.

While on our vacation Sandy and I along with our grandson checked out the various spots of interest that we have designated for stops.  If anyone has any special stops they would like to include please e-mail or call me with the details.  Also please let me know that you plan on going.  (810) 793-6287 or lon@residentialmedical.com
