Tips/Comments by STAN
If you have gotten the May copy of the
Mustang Times there is an article about the national show that was held in
Polk City FL. in March. This was a great show that Ruth and I were fortunate
enough to be able to attend. It was a combination of Mustang cars and
Mustang airplanes. If you have never been close to a P-51 when it is taking
off you would be amazed at the awesome power that these things have. They
are powered by a 16 cylinder Merlin engine, producing 1200 hp. There were
three that were on display for the weekend and would take off once in a
while and do acrobatics. You could drive your car right up to the planes and
they would take your picture or you could take your own picture. The Polk
county airport is near Lakeland and can be seen from I-4 going toward
Orlando. There is a large museum of old military aircraft and also
simulators for young and old to get the experience of flight. They have
tours several times a day and also will take you up in an open cockpit
biplane. It sure was a fun time for us and I’m sure that you would enjoy it
also.
It’s that time of year when we should at least bleed the brakes on our
Mustangs.
If your older Mustang is like mine the ammeter hand does not move even when
it is working properly. Get a cheap volt meter from a store like Home Depot
and check it with the motor running. With the motor running you should get a
reading of 13 to 14 ½ volts measured across the battery terminals. At the
May meeting I will have mine there If you want your car checked.
Remember don’t be a stranger.
Paymaster: “how long have you been working here?”
Office Boy: “Ever since the boss threatened to fire me.”
Employer: “Why were you late this morning?”
Office Boy: “On account of my alarm clock. Everybody in the house got up but
me.”
Employer: “how was that?”
Office Boy: “There are nine of us and the alarm clock was only set for
eight.”

MUSTANG CLUB OF MID MICHIGAN MEETING 04-18-05
The April meeting was called to order by President, Gary Strappazon at the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth at 7:00 pm.
Those in attendance were:
Rich Svatora, Mike & Rebecca Winter, Robert & Gina Dillenbeck, Del
Zimmerman, Charlie & Lova Reinhardt, Chris Jansen, Gary & Linda Riley, Don &
Judy VanSickle, Tom Welsh, Leif Johnson & Melissa Morris, Dick Lebsack and
Gary Strappazon. Dave & Diana DeSilva arrived late because they were unable
to find the meeting location. If anyone has concerns about not being able to
find the meeting location please, give Gary Strappazon a call at (989)
652-4842 prior to the meeting and he will help you with directions.
Our guest speaker was Deana Barcomb. Deana is the owner of Coupar Creations and she spoke on what her company could offer our club regarding embroidery work on shirts, hats, coats, etc.
Treasurer’s report: Gary read a report from Gregg Glaviano, everything checked and balanced and we moved on.
Membership Report: We have 2 new memberships.
Show Report: Dick Lebsack & Gary Strappazon ordered signs for upcoming car shows for the cost of $72.00.
Trophy Report: Gary Strappazon found 10” trophies with our logo for a cost of $792.00 for 144 trophies. Dash plaques would be in 3 colors for $1.00 a plaque.
Cruisin’ for a Cause: Will be Saturday & Sunday, April 23rd and 24th at the Perani Center in Flint. Proceeds will go to the Whaley Children’s Center. Members from our club will take turns at the information booth during the show.
Show and Shine: Will be held on Saturday, May 21st at All-American Ford in Saginaw. Proceeds will go to the Saginaw Veterans Memorial Plaza.
Bavarian Pony Coral: The dates are June 10, 11 & 12. The details are sketchy at this point because Gary has not heard back from Dave in Florida who is heading up the Pony Drive. If plans go well there will be a host of activities for the Pony Drive people in Frankenmuth. Gary is checking on the possibility of a cruise on Saturday night. If all goes well and we get the permission from the police, it should last about 1 hour and maybe end up with photos at the covered bridge. We are also checking on a buffet-style dinner for approx. $13.95 including tip/tax at the Fortress from 7-8 pm.
Sunday is the parade and there maybe a request for convertible Mustangs to carry the Queen and Princess. Zehnders will be serving meals in the park Saturday & Sunday, and providing tables with umbrellas. Some hotels have been reserved with discount rates for Pony Drive participants. We are still entertaining the idea of charging a fee to park in Zehnder Park with the proceeds going to a charity.
“Be Cool” Car Show: There is a new design for the t-shirt including a 2005 Mustang and our club logo. The dates for the show are July 9th & 10th. Saturday it is in Bay City and Sunday it is in Essexville.
The club is still looking for someone to take over the Club Historian position to relieve Jack Morton so he can focus on the club web site.
Dick Lebsack brought a Mustang Birthday cake to celebrate the Mustang Birthday and led everyone in singing Happy Birthday. Thanks, Dick.
Respectfully submitted, Rebecca Winter standing in for Diane Williams
THE PREZ SEZ
Another month, another show season has begun and almost all of our snowbirds are back home. Gregg will be home soon.
We want to thank all members who worked so hard at the “Cruisin’ for a Cause” show last weekend at the Perani Ice Arena. Those who worked were: Dick Lebsack, Tim Mace, Chris Jansen, Mike & Michael Winter, Gary Riley, Leif Johnson & Melissa Morris and Gary Strappazon. Also, thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Jansen, Gary Riley and Linda Strappazon who all helped with transportation of the cars. We also need to thank Jeff Szostek of All American Ford who furnished a 2005 Mustang coupe for display. Lastly, thank you to Chris Jansen and Gary Strappazon who had their Mustangs on display. We were also able to say “hi” to Dave & Diana DeSilva and to Tom Welsh and his son. They all dropped by and saw us. There will be another show next year at the same location. The date is uncertain…it all depends on the Flint Generals schedule. We were able to make acquaintances with many at the show, to help get our message out more effectively in the Flint area.
The Show & Shine is progressing well. It will be held on Saturday, May 21st at All American Ford on Bay Road in Saginaw. Bring your Mustangs and all your friends and neighbors…any vehicle is welcome!
We have also talked with Becky French at KCQ. We are also progressing well here. That date is Saturday, June 18th on Ojibway Island in Saginaw. We judge the cars and possibly help a bit with the tabulations and we are done by 11:30 am or 12 noon at the latest.
Finally, we are also progressing a bit more slowly in getting it together for the Bavarian Pony Corral in Frankenmuth during the Bavarian Festival Saturday June 11th and Sunday, June 12th. The cruise is the scheduling nightmare. We do have a commitment from the parade chairman to have 4 of our Mustangs (they asked for convertibles) in the Sunday parade. Possibly, more will be needed for local dignitaries or Queen Contestants and such (convertibles again).
On another subject, there may be a formal tour of the Auto Alliance International Plant at Flat Rock. That is the new home of our favorite car. We would get to see it running production, I’m guessing on a Saturday. This may come along VERY SUDDENLY. You may only get a phone call to notify you of the opportunity. SEE NEWSLETTER UPDATE!!!
