First off the 40th Anniversary was every bit as exciting as I knew it would be. It was so good to see so many Mustangs, and to see so many people with the same hobby was astounding. Everyone from our Club who went had a great time and it was sure fun to be with them on the way there and the return trip. There were a few exciting moments on the return trip when a fellow member locked his keys in his car. We won’t mention any names, but he drives a Mustang II Cobra.
Our web site is up and running thanks to Jack Morton and a few other people and some hard work on their part. It is not complete but you can go to www.mustangclubmm.com to view. May is the month when most of us bring out our cars for shows, cruises or to just drive. At the May meeting at Mancinos restaurant we will have a digital camera to take pictures of member’s cars for the website. Come a little early and chat and get your picture taken. If you can’t make the monthly meeting you can send a picture to Jack Morton at tanpony68@aol.com. When doing this you should use good picture taking techniques.

THE PREZ SEZ
How wonderful to see spring finally breaking. We should have our cars out & on the road by now!
Those of us who were celebrating the BIG birthday party in Nashville had a wonderful time. We were there to enjoy a momentous caravan procession into the speedway; enjoy numerous seminar sessions; meet and listen to several notable & historical Ford & Mustang people talk. The 2005 Base model & GT model were displayed, as were several sub-assembly stages of the 2005 car. We were also invited to attend a presentation regarding the new manufacturing process & facility at the new Mustang factory in Flat Rock where the 2005 model production begins. Steve Saleen celebrated with another wonderful birthday for his Mustang faithful at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. The Grand Ole Opry was also a popular attraction. There were 2 vintage races on the program - the first were 1965 Shelby GT 350’s & the second were 1969-1970 Boss Trans AM’s. The on track events were concluded by an exhibition race consisting of current racing Mustangs of Steeda, Saleen, Kenny Brown and the likes there of. Jack Roush flew over the race track in his vintage P51 Mustang “The Old Crow”. He then graciously signed autographs for about 90 minutes. Charlie Daniels concert was the closing act on Sunday afternoon. We skipped the concert to get an earlier start back home.
The club members that received awards were: Stan & Ruth Bentley a gold award in the Concurs division with their 1968 California Special, Jeff & Denise Pratt a gold award in the Concurs division with their 1971 convertible, Kevin & Kate Barnum a Judges Choice award with their 1986 SVO and Gary Strappazon a Judges Choice award with his 1995 GT convertible/removable hard top.
There were a lot of vendors & sponsors with information, merchandise, memorabilia and collector items. We made contact with 15-20 vendors regarding our annual car show in September. Mike & Dick handed out between 500-750 show flyers.
Finally, we must complement Mike & Susan Jones from the West MI Mustang Club for doing such a wonderful job of planning, scheduling and implementing our caravan to Murfreesboro, TN. Mike & Susan special thank you for making a fun time even better.
Now regarding MCMM: We had a wonderful turnout at our last meeting, & it was held on a Tuesday no less! There were 18 club members, 2 new members, 1 soon to be member & 1 guest.
Our Show and Shine has had a LOCATION AND DATE CHANGE. Since the Prime Outlets mall at Birch Run could not generate enough interest among the merchants for awards, Dick & I decided to cancel. Dick was able to schedule the Show and Shine on Saturday, May 22nd at the Toys R Us at the Midland Mall on Eastman Rd, just off US 10.
PLEASE NOTE: SHOW AND SHINE - MAY 22ND AT TOYS R US AT THE MIDLAND MALL.
At the meeting there was a good show of interest, we plan to see you all there. It is from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.
The MCA National Board Meeting will be held on May 7-8 in Flat Rock, MI. Stan Bentley is the Regional Director for our club and will be attending and I will be his guest.
MCMM had some nice recognition in the Wheels section of The Flint Journal on Thursday, April 29th. I have some extra copies if anyone is interested.
I will be participating in the Great American Pony Drive II. It is coming to Indianapolis, IN on Wednesday, May 19th. They will proceed to Ft. Wayne, Toledo, OH and arrive in Dearborn, MI on Friday. There will be tours & visits to Ford World Headquarters, the Dearborn Assembly Plant & the Henry Ford Museum. This is the same caravan that began in Florida & went to Nashville for the 40th, then west to LA & back to the east coast. All Mustangs are welcome, if you want to ride with me or drive with me on the part of the trip, give me a call or e-mail. You can also visit www.ponydrive.us.
Remember we are participating at the KCQ Music Fest on Ojibway Island, Saginaw on Saturday, June 19th. About 12 people will be needed. More information will be at our MCMM May meeting.

Editor’s Note:
As you know Stan & I spend our winters in Florida & we have joined a Mustang Club there. Peggy & Court Nederveld 2 members from that club are on the “Great American Pony Drive II”. The following is an e-mail we received from them describing some of their experiences we thought we would share it with you.
Hello from Texas,
You have no idea how much fun we are having. Leaving Nashville we headed to
Pensacola. The Gulf Coast Region Mustang Club met us at Bob’s Mustang
Village where we were treated to drinks and some of the best pork BBQ and
beans we’ve ever had. There we met and spent the night with the Kirby’s at
their beautiful home with the beautiful view of the bay. The next morning
the Blue Angels were practicing and flew directly towards us at wave top
level across the bay. At the last moment they broke right and flew off to
the east. Amazing!
We stopped at the Battleship Alabama and then headed to Baton Rouge. The Baton Rouge Mustang Club held a reception for us and handed out great goody bags. The next morning they led us to Beaumont, TX with a stop at the first rest area over the Louisiana line. I mention this only because I think I have found where the Hobbits live. The restrooms were built for tiny people. The sinks were 19 inches off the floor. The doors on the toilet stalls came up to just past my belt buckle and the dryers were mounted on the walls just above my knees.
Beaumont, Texas. They did it up right. A major block party downtown at the entertainment center. The local radio station broadcast our advance into the city. A hundred Mustangs, the Mayor of the town welcoming us to Beaumont, with BBQ chicken, a band and free t-shirts for everybody. As great as Beaumont treated us, no one was ready for Dallas. When they say Texas does it bigger, Dallas does it bigger yet. There were thirty seven Mustangs barreling down US 20 straight at the heart of Dallas. There hanging not 300 feet over the highway was the local NBC helicopter. Twice it set up and filmed us as we rocketed into Dallas. We were expected at the Carroll Shelby Mfg. plant for what was billed as a small, intimate reception and a tour of the facility. Small and intimate must have a different definition in Dallas. As we rolled into the Shelby plant, we saw 160 Mustangs waiting for us. No less than a thousand people, all the food we could eat, t-shirts, hats, door prizes and birthday cake. Ford Motor Co. shipped the new 2005 Mustang GT to the gathering and it will follow us for awhile.
Carroll Shelby is legend in the Mustang world. The movie “Gone in Sixty Seconds” stars a Shelby GT 500 KR Mustang known as “Eleanor”. This is where it was designed and built. For a mere 100 to 150 grand you can have an Eleanor as well. That night on the news we saw the helicopter shots and the interviews with Dave Turnbull, the organizer of the “Great American Pony Drive II”
We wonder if it is possible to party two and three times a day, travel miles between parties and survive for eight weeks.
From the road,
Court and Peg
