MCMM REGULAR MEETING 02-19-07

Meeting called to order by President, Dick Lebsack.  There were three BOD members present with proxies from Stan Bentley, Charlie Reinhardt & Gregg Glaviano.  Gregg was represented by Mary Leinberger.  In attendance were: Dick Lebsack, Gary Strappazon, Diane Williams, Lon Hetchler, Gina & Bob Dillenbeck, Pat & Quentin Levitte, Linda Kabobel, Kathy Jansen, Chris Jansen, Jennifer Davidson, Ron Loudenslager, Tom Welsh, Mary Leinberger, Tim Grahl & Tim Mace.

Treasurer’s Report for February, 2007 was read and approved.

Cargo Trailer: MCMM took possession of the brand new Legend’s cargo trailer.  We have purchased insurance for one year & locks for the trailer.  There was discussion about logos & sponsors for the trailer.

MCMM 2007 Car Show: The new site for the MCMM 2007 Car Show is the Birch Run Expo Center across the street from the Birch Run Mall and will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2007.

MCMM Car Show Charity: Gina Dillenbeck reports the Charity Committee recommended the Children’s Wish Fund for our 2007 Car Show Charity.  Motion made & carried.

MCMM Website: Tim Grahl, our new webmaster was present at the meeting.  Tim shared with us that doing websites is his occupation.  He also was on the BOD of the MOCSEM Mustang Club.  We are pleased to welcome Tim to our club.

National MCA Mustang Car Show 2009: MCMM will submit our application to MCA to host a national show in 2009.  Gary Strappazon and Charlie Reinhardt have been hard at work on this show.  They will attend the MCA national car show in Oklahoma on April 20, 2007.  They will be there to observe and learn.  Tim Grahl was a member of MOCSEM when that club sponsored a national MCA show.  He has a wealth of information to help MCMM in this endeavor.  This is step one toward this activity.  Dick Lebsack has an application form for the MCA’s president award for Mustang clubs.  Dick thinks MCMM might qualify.  Something to look into?

Chili Potluck in Midland: Thirty two members enjoyed a fun ay of eating and eating and swimming and swapping stuff.  This is a great winter outing for family and kids.  We will do this again next year.

MCMM 2007 Club Sponsorship: Tom Welsh presented the club with a well thought out draft proposal that we could submit to potential sponsors.  There was much discussion, with possibly some revisions.  The proposal needs to be finalized quickly.  Thank you, Tom for a fine job.

The Prez Sez

The MCMM Chili Potluck was very delicious.  I hovered around the various kinds of great tasting chili.  I bet these recipes would look good in a club cookbook, HINT!  About 32 members and family enjoyed the food, prizes and swimming.

Take note that next month’s club meeting will be in the Rathskeller Room (lower level) in the Bavarian Inn Lodge.  We moved from the front desk and pool area to the lower level of the Tower Building to the Rathskeller Room.  See related article in newsletter.

We have 7 cars signed up for the Traverse City-Mission Peninsula Pony Cruise June 22-24, 2007.  We will stay at the Maple Lane Re4sort on beautiful Glen Lake near Glen Arbor.  They offered the same nightly rate as last year ($89 per night).  We may have to limit the amount of cars we can have on the cruise to about 10.  And yes, there is a lighthouse at the end of the peninsula.  See related article in the newsletter.

Mark you calendar for the Woodward Dream Cruise on August 18th.  We will have more on this next month.  If anyone is interested in helping out, here is a great opportunity to get to know some of the members and have a great time with a very nice car.  Call Mike Winter before someone calls him first.  Telephone: (810) 953-0542.

Quentin Levitte may be looking for some judges to help judge MOCSEM club members’ cars at the MOCSEM car show August 12th.  Neil Holcomb, President of MOCSEM asked if our club would help them with this event.  Anytime two clubs can work together, is a great thing.

It’s almost, yes, almost time to get that Mustang out for the spring fling.  I am getting spring fever, after all baseball spring training is here, a sunny 44 degrees yesterday and they are playing golf on TV.  I am ready for Mustang time!

Be sure to check out our new website www.mustangclubmm.com.  Tim Grahl, our new webmaster has it up and running.  Check it out!  If you have any comments or suggestions call me and I will forward them to Tim.  We are always looking for input.  My telephone number is: (989) 631-9536.

Ron Loudenslager has our annual Show & Shine set for May 19th (Armed Services Day) at Saginaw Valley Ford on Bay Road in Saginaw.  The Great Lake Loons gave Ron ticket to give away, along with some other prizes.  The registration fee of $10 will be donated to the Saginaw County Veterans Memorial Plaza.  Over the last couple of years we have donated about $1,000 to them.

Don’t forget to enter the “Name the 2009 MCMM National Car Show” contest.  Charlie Reinhardt is organizing this contest.  See the February Newsletter for more information or call Charlie.  The prize is really something!  Charlie’s telephone is (989) 891-0414.

Autorama is March 9-11 at Cobo Hall in Detroit.  Several members are going.  Chris Jansen, Quentin Levitte and Gary Strappazon are going Friday, March 9th and Mike Winter is going on March 10th.  If you are looking to go with someone, give them a call.  I know they would enjoy your company.  Chris’s telephone is (989) 672-1966 and Mike’s telephone is (810) 953-0542.

Keep Smiling,

Dick Lebsack

The MCMM meeting room has a change in its location.  We will still meet at the Bavarian Inn Lodge, but instead of meeting near the pool by the hotel registration desk we will have our meetings in the Rathskeller Room.  This is located in the building behind the main entrance to the Bavarian Inn Lodge.  Drive around to the right side (east) of the main building until you see the Tower Building.  Go into the Tower Building and take the elevator to the lower level.  Exit the elevator and turn left.  The MCMM meeting will be in the main eating area.

TIPS/COMMENTS

By MCMM Member Quentin Levitte

Life sure can throw you some curves . . . if I had grown up in Flint rather than Dearborn I might be looking for the perfect Camaro.  But I did grow up in Dearborn and had a family full of Ford engineers; consequently Mustangs were always a part of my life.  Joining clubs on the other hand is somewhat foreign to me.  When Pat & I would take our Mustang to a car show we would see Stan & Ruth, Bill & Ada or Chris & Mindy, these folks were always present and would spend time talking with us.  Over time we did become members of the Mustang Club and other friendships were formed.  With those we met originally, well those bonds only got stronger.  So when Stan & Ruth invited us down to their Florida home we jumped at the chance.  What could be better, warm weather and good friends?

Packing amounted to how many short sleeved shirts and cut offs to take … bathing suits, yes.  Sweaters, no … well maybe one.  Pat & I left on Tuesday, January 23rd around 11 am.  The way the wind was filling up our road with snow we were lucky to get out at all.  Our car is equipped with that little outside temperature gauge and with every upward tick of that gauge we knew we were getting closer.  In southern Ohio we were passed by a 6 cylinder ’65 white Mustang coupe going about 75 miles per hour.  Pat’s comment was that’s a good sign.  As we drove we began to see more and more Mustangs.  You need to understand Pas has got the concept down of Mustang colors but what body style and year, well that escapes her completely.  She would pipe up “look at that red Mustang on the right” or “look at that green one, it’s the same green as the Mustang we had when we got married.”  The farther south we drove the more Mustangs we saw.  In Florida, every other old timer was driving a cool new Mustang convertible with the top down.

When we got to the Bentley’s, there sitting in the driveway was a beautiful, white Fox Body Mustang convertible.  When we went over to see the Hoard’s, in their driveway sat a bright, yellow Mustang convertible.  Bill really loves that car, but Ada says it looks like something a “pimp” should drive.  I’m thinking we need to move down to Florida and get a Mustang convertible, I’m sure we meet the minimum age requirement.  We would fit right in.

While at the Bentley’s everyday brought a new adventure . . . . Picnics at the shore, concerts on the beach or riding bikes around the park.  I need to say Stan takes much better care of his fleet of Mustangs then he does his fleet of well-used bikes.  On one of our little adventures we passed a ’65 coupe for sale.  I mentioned we should probably stop and take a look at it as Chris Jansen is always looking for another Mustang to add to his corral.  Stan just looked at me and said we’re not stopping, that one doesn’t have enough rust on it for Chris.

Pat & I stayed for about a week and I knew it was time to go when Stan offered to help us pack.  (NOT TRUE!!) Pat and I marveled all the way back to Michigan how much fun we had with Stan & Ruth.  As we pulled into our snow-plugged driveway back here in Caro, Pat looked at me and said

. . . “Do you think Stan & Ruth would adopt us?”
