TIPS/COMMENTS
BY STAN
A member who is working on an old Mustang asked if he could put silicone brake fluid in his car. The answer is no, unless you change all the components of the braking system. The old and the new will not mix. The silicone will still attract moisture and that is the enemy of all the braking systems. Silicone systems should still be bled once a year, but who ever does. If you put the old brake fluid {DOT 3} in the old Mustang and bleed the system once a year you should be in great shape.
I have turned in the paper work to get the membership applications for the Mustang Club of America. This is a membership drive that MCA is promoting where our club will get $10 of the $30 membership fee of every member that joins. Last year we had six people join. I should have the paper work at the April meeting.
The April monthly meeting is where we all try and bring our Mustangs to the meeting, weather permitting of course.
Remember don’t be a stranger.

A Note of Thanks: Thank you to everyone that sent their condolences to us, it meant so very much to us. Mindy & Chris
A Note of Appreciation: Lon Hetchler has donated a 4-drawer locking file cabinet to the club for record storage and historical documents. Lon, your donation is greatly appreciated!
MCMM REGULAR MEETING 02-20-06
Meeting called to order at 7:15 pm by President, Dick Lebsack. Those present were: Tim Mace, Diane Williams, Charlie & Lova Reinhardt, Quentin & Pat Levitte, Chris Jansen, Al Rogers, Howard & Kim Hughes, Mike & Carolyn Coats, Tom Welsh, Bob & Gina Dillenbeck, Lon Hetchler, Jennifer Davison & Ron Loudenslager and Del Zimmerman. Proxies accepted for Stan & Ruth Bentley, Gary Strappazon & Jack Morton.
Guests: Jason Young and Patrick McInerney from McDonald Ford in Freeland, MI. They brought a beautiful 2006 Red Saleen Mustang. What a treat. They stated that if a club member purchased a Saleen from McDonald Ford, there would be a special discount of $500.00. $300.00 to the member & $200.00 to the club. They will take you to the plant & you can see your car being built.
Joe Babiasz and Bob Hisen from Livingston Regional M-TEC in Howell, MI. They teach classes in restoring collector cars, specializing in Mustangs. COLLECTOR CAR RESTORATION 101 is a class for anyone who is thinking about restoring a classic car. IT WILL SAVE YOU MONEY. The class is Saturday, March, 22, 2006. The cost is $40.00 per person. Call to register at (517) 548-4589 or website www.livingstonmtec.org.
Minutes: The January 16th minutes approved. The Treasurer’s report read & approved.
Membership: Chris Jansen reported one new family – James & Toni Wentworth. The Wentworth’s attended our Chili and swim party. Chris is putting together a membership drive with MCMM members competing to enroll the most new members. Chris’s goal is 100 families.
Historian: Lova Reinhardt announced that a 4-drawer file cabinet has been donated by MCMM member Lon Hetchler. Thank you Lon for the donation. A suggestion was made that Charlie might paint it with the MCMM logo but he didn’t think so.
2006 MCMM Car Show: Gregg Glaviano has a bid of $300.00 to print 4,000 flyers. Charlie suggested having a coloring contest for the children that come to the show. He has pictures of Mustangs for the children to color.
“Be Cool” Car Show: The dates are July 7th and 8th. MCMM will be in charge of the cruise which will be 11 miles long. Registration fee is $5.00.
MSP-Mustang Club Co-op Venture: Del Zimmerman reported that MCMM has been given approval by the MI State Police to go forward with the proposed project. A committee from the MCMM will inspect the car in March. With the financial state that MI is in, this car would probably sit there and deteriorate. We think we can get sponsors, so sweat equity might be all that we have to invest. This could be an exciting project.
Public Relations: Al Rogers brought up the question of how far out do we want to reach border-wise. He thinks the Fenton, Howell, Brighton area is possible.
Non-Profit: We are still researching the MCA possibility.
MCA: Stan Bentley says that you can access the MCA website using your MCA membership number.
Chili Party: Everyone had a great time and we will do it again next year. The hours of the party will be extended.
KCQ Music Fest: The date of the show is Saturday, June 17th. More information will be provided as it becomes known.
Show and Shine: Ron Loudenslager reports that this year’s Show & Shine will be held on Saturday, May 20th at the Saginaw Valley Ford on Bay Road in Saginaw. We are very happy to have Saginaw Valley Ford sponsor our Show & Shine again this year. Prizes will be given away during the show.
Pony Ride in Leelanau County: The trip will be held on the weekend of June 23-25. Currently we have 6 families that have signed up for this outing. Everyone is welcome. If interested contact Dick Lebsack at (989) 631-9536.
Bavarian Festival: The date is June 11th in Frankenmuth. We will try to get our own spot again this year and also participate in the parade.
MCA National Show: The show is in Johnson City, TN May 26-29. Quentin & Pat Levitte are going to the show. They will be leave May 24th and return May 29th. If you are interested in this trip contact Quentin at (989) 673-4515 or check show on MCA website.
Coupar Creations: Deanna from Coupar Creations, a clothing embroidery business and a club sponsor will be at our March 20th meeting.
Motion was made by Del Zimmerman to adjourn, seconded by Tim Mace. Meeting adjourned.

THE PREZ SEZ
Our club had a very successful chili potluck. There was one big major complaint –it was too short. We need to expand it to another hour. We can do that! We had club members, spouses, kids, grandkids and even the neighborhood kids – about 35 people in all. It was a lot of fun. Al Rogers and his daughter drove from Canton, MI (2 ˝ hours one way) just to be there. That’s dedication!
Don’t forget to “ASK STAN” technical or any other questions about your early Mustang. Give him a call or e-mail and he will answer it in the newsletter. I always seem to have 1966 Mustang questions.
We also had a special treat before the meeting. Jason Young & Pat McInerney of McDonald Ford in Freeland brought a 2006 Red Saleen. Bob Dillenbeck volunteered to take it for a ten minute spin. Ron Loudenslager from Saginaw Valley Ford will bring a Roush, if one is available, to the next meeting. Also Deana Barcomb, our club logo clothing representative will have samples of MCMM clothing at our next meeting. She can custom make whatever you want.
Our MI State Police-MCMM Co-op venture to restore a Mustang cop car is looking good. Del Zimmerman and some members will travel to Lansing sometime this month to inspect the car to see what is needed to do the job. If interested in going, give Del a call. Del had a detailed report at our meeting and the BOD recommended going ahead with the project upon inspection of the car.
Al Rogers introduced two guest presenters at the meeting. The topic was Car Restoration 101. Joe Bobiasz & Bob Hisen talked about a course they will be offering this year on car restoration. It sounded very interesting. If you want more information call Joe Bobiasz at (586) 260-33291.
At the April 17th meeting, I will take the final count on who is going on the Leelanau County Pony Cruise June 23-25. This tour is all on paved roads and includes a lighthouse, covered bridge, great views, scenic shores, giant sand dunes, terrific photo opportunities, super companionship while driving your pony car will make for some awesome fun. The cost is $89 a night at the Maple Lane Resort and you buy your own meals. There is a gathering room to cook or BBQ. We have eight members signed up. To make your reservation call the Maple Lane Resort and tell the manager that you are with the Mustang Club Pony Cruise, (231) 334-3413, website: www.maplelaneresort.com.
Don’t forget, if you have not paid your dues ($20) by March 31, 2006 this will be your last newsletter. The dues are due every year in January. In April Ruth Bentley will be publishing an updated membership list for each member – you do not want to be left OUT!
Keep smiling
Dick Lebsack
THE LADIES CORNER
SPICY AVOCADO DIP
RECIPE PROVIDED BY DIANA DESILVA
6 scallions, finely chopped
1-2 fresh, medium-hot green chilies (Jalapenos add a nice kick!)
2 garlic cloves, crushed and chopped
A handful of fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
2-3 ripe avocados (soft)
˝ tsp. salt
Juice of 1 lime (3-4 tbs.)
1 large ripe tomato, halved, seeded and diced or 1 (8 oz) can tomatillos, drained
Mix the scallions, chilies, garlic and cilantro in a bowl. Cut the avocados in half lengthwise and discard the pits. Using a teaspoon, scrape the flesh away from the skins and mash it well while still in the skin. Add to the bowl together with salt and half the lime juice. Mix well, smooth the top of the guacamole and pour over the remaining juice. Put the diced tomato on top of the guacamole. Great with tortilla chips for dipping.
Enjoy!

MCMM 1ST ANNUAL CHILI PARTY
Our 1st annual chili party was a huge success! If you missed it this year, plan on attending next year. This chili party was the idea that our president, Dick Lebsack got from the West MI Mustang Club. Dick put the whole thing together and it was great fun. There were 35 adults and children that included members, spouses, children, grandchildren and friends. The party included great food, companionship, swimming, raffle prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Everyone stated the party was a success and should be repeated next year. So much fun was had that the party time will be extended from 12:00 to 5:00 pm.
Those in attendance were: Jim & Rose Maier, Tim & Toni Wentworth, Jack & Darlene Morton, Charlie & Lova Reinhardt, Gary & Linda Strappazon, Diane Williams and grandchildren Chloe & Josh, Dick & Nyla Lebsack and daughter Lisa and grandchildren Alex & Makena, Al Rogers and daughter Christina, Lon & Sandy Hetchler and grandchildren Devon, Brandon & Cameron, Mike & Rebecca Winter. We missed our snowbirds.
Our raffle winners were: Nyla Lebsack, Gina Dillenbeck & Bob Dillenbeck, Toni & Jim Wentworth, Jim & Rose Maier, Jack Morton, Lova Reinhardt, Mike Winter and Linda Strappazon. Because we are a “kind and caring” club, those who won more then one prize made a donation to those that had not won.
Thank Dick for the idea and chairing the event. Hope to see everyone next year.
Diane Williams, Secretary

IN THE HERD SPOTLIGHT
This is the first installment of the member spotlight. We are introduced to Quentin and Pat Levitte who reside in Caro, MI. They were married June 21, 1968 and will celebrate their 38th Wedding Anniversary this year. They have two sons, Quentin and Nathan who are both married and live out-of-state. Quentin and Pat like to hunt and go antiquing but still find time to travel. Their Mustang that is featured here is a 1966 coupe that they drove on the Hot Rod Power Tour and to the 40th Anniversary of the Mustang in Nashville, TN., with no problems on either trip! At the 40th Anniversary show, they even received an award that I hope they will bring to a meeting to show us. I’m told there is a good story behind the winning of that award. If you have any questions ask Quentin.
The 1966 coupe is blue with a K-code (289 Hi-Po) engine and automatic transmission. It was restored to original and has 62,000 miles. They also have a l965 fastback 2+2 green restomod. The special modifications to this include a 408 cid engine, 4 wheel disc brakes, A/C, 4-speed automatic transmission and rack and pinion steering. (I’m sure there is more, but he is keeping secrets from us!) The last one he let me know about, but surely not the least is a 1967 yellow convertible with a K-code engine. It needs a complete restoration with 130,000 miles. The special thing about this car is the dealer installed Paxton Supercharger!!

IN THE HERD SPOTLIGHT
In this installment of the member spotlight, we get to meet Jim and Toni Wentworth of Gladwin, MI. They have been married for over 28 years and have 5 children: Brian, Brenda, Brent, Misty and Kristy. They have developed some green thumbs as they enjoy gardening and landscaping.
Their pride and joy is a 1965 blue metallic fastback that they have owned for about 1 year. Though it has 80,000 miles the 302 has been stoked to 347 cid and includes headers. Body modifications include a custom front valance with spoiler, flared fenders at all four wheel openings, fiberglass hood and trunk and custom wheels. The combination is very striking, earning them 3 awards in only 5 shows! The awards include a 2nd place in Street Machines (49-66) a Best Mustang and Best Paint! They have also been in 3 parades with this car, which I’m sure has been a crowd favorite.
Though no extremely long trips have been done in their car, they have managed to go roundtrip between Gladwin and Linden and still average 10 mpg!
Respectfully submitted, Charlie Reinhardt, Vice President

NEW FORM NUMBERING METHOD
For those of you that make up forms for the club, please add a form number to bottom of each form. Each form should have its own number. This will allow us to keep track of the forms and make it easier to make more of a particular one if needed. When a new form is made, be sure to send a copy to the historian for filing and recordkeeping purposes.
The easiest way of numbering will be for each individual to keep track of his or her own numbers used. Using the following method: (example) Form MCMM 2-06xx01. This will break down as:
MCMM (Mustang Club of Mid-Michigan), 2 (Feb., 3-March, etc.), 06 (year), xx (initials of person making form, you may use 3 to include your middle name to differentiate yourself from someone with similar initials), and 01 (first form for that month by that person, 02 would be the second form, etc.).
If anyone has in use forms that they have developed over the years, please number them and send copies of the forms to the historian.
Thank you for your help,
Charlie Reinhardt, Vice President
DISCOUNTS!!!!
During the February meeting I presented an opportunity for discounts from Late Model Restoration Supply, www.latemodelrestorationsupply.com and www.50Resto.com. They have asked for an active club roster for this purpose. There was support and approval from the members attending the meeting. I contacted the company for clarification on the discounts offered and for catalogs for our show. Both results are POSITIVE!
The company has 2 Mustang catalogs covering 79-93 and 94-2004. They also have Ford truck parts covering 87-2004. Lastly, for those of you who have a Chevy C/K truck they have a catalog for that too.
The discounts are across the board “10% on restoration parts and a 5% discount on performance parts every time you order.” This includes orders from both the Mustang catalogs, Ford truck parts and Chevy truck parts. I hope this helps some members in the club. To receive this discount, you must state that you are an active member of the Mustang Club of Mid-Michigan. They will check this against the club roster. According to Brad Taylor, our “contact” they are pretty lenient on this restriction. You should expect to receive a catalog in the mail in early April, if not sooner.
