TIPS/COMMENTS

BY STAN

I have known several people that have put the newer engine and transmission in the older Mustangs.  The reason for doing this is better mileage and the fact that they are much easer to start.  To do this you must have all the parts from the newer car.  You also must have the mechanical ability to do this.  I think this is why most people have someone else do this job.  Also, you must have the tools to check the computer, this is why it’s not just a back yard job.  The bad thing is if something goes wrong out on the road, not just everyone will or can work on these.  Some have even gone as far as changing the suspension from the newer car.  This is for better handling. All this is to have an individual car and sometimes I think to be just different.  I guess I am from the old school.  If I am going to have an old car I would like it to drive like an old car.  It may not be as comfortable as the newer ones but I still like them.

We are going to the MCA national show in Columbus, Ohio on June 20th.  It is a one day drive so if anyone would like to go there is still time to sign up.  You might not be able to get into the host hotel, but that is ok.  Sometimes we don’t stay at the host hotel because it is too expensive.  They always list other nearby hotels and they are just fine.

The Bavarian festival is June 14th and 15th and we will have the club trailer there.  We are planning a “cleanup” bee to clean and wax the trailer.  I will bring cleaner, wax and rags.  This will be a good time to look at all the work Paul Wigglesworth has done inside the trailer.

Remember don’t be a stranger.

What happens if you get scared halve to death, twice?

If the world didn’t suck, we would all fall off.

When everything is coming your way, you are in the wrong lane.

MCMM REGULAR MEETING 05-19-08

Meeting called to order by Past President Dick Lebsack.  Those in attendance were: Stan & Ruth Bentley, Linda Kabobel, Dick Lebsack, Quentin Levitte, Gregg Glaviano & Mary Leinberger, Jim Jansen, Gary & Linda Riley, Bill & Ada Hoard, Bob Dillenbeck, Tom Welsh, Cynthia & Paul Wrigglesworth, Jim Church, Ron Loudenslager & Jennifer Davison and Alan Macdonald.

Dick introduced the guest speaker – Joe Babiasz.  He spoke on behalf of

Catch A Wave Productions.  This is a cruise that is scheduled for February, 2009.  It is the 2nd Annual Mustang Lovers’ Cruise.  The Mustang will be 45 years old in 2009 and they are holding a seven-day-long birthday party.  For more information go to the website: www.catchawaveproductions.com.

There were no reported proxies submitted.

Treasurer’s Report received from Gary Riley.

Property: Gary Riley has added more prizes for our show to the trailer.  Ron Loudenslager has donated T-shirts.  It was suggested that members pitch in and help wax the trailer while in Frankenmuth for the Bavarian Fest.

Historian: Dick reported that Lova is doing fine.  She is waiting for the next chemotherapy.

Club Clothing: Linda Kabobel has suggested that members visit the website of Coupar Creations since there are so many choices.  The website is:  www.couparcreations.com.  Linda stated she is more than willing to go to the shop for you.

MCMM annual Mustang & All Ford Show: Quentin stated that the show’s expenses are considerably less than projected.  He made the recommendation that the club purchase a big item for the raffle table spending around $200 to $300.  Members are also encouraged to bring in items for the raffle table or for door prizes.  Once again Quentin talked about the possibility of members making “homemade” trophies to be given out before the actual show trophy presentation.  Dick Lebsack brought a sampling of homemade trophies that were used in Midland.  If any member is interested just let Quentin know.  If you make a trophy you get to pick the winner of that trophy & present it.

MCA Regional Director: Stan Bentley reports that he and Quentin Levitte attended the last MCA Board of Directors meeting that was held at Design Concepts in Novi.  MCA is financially in the red.  The explanation may be in the drop in membership.  The 45th anniversary of the Mustang show will be held at Barber Motorsports in Birmingham, Alabama.  Stan is again going to submit our club for the President’s Award.  The club receives points for various categories.  If you receive a letter from Stan asking for some information, please respond promptly so that the application can be submitted before the deadline.

Sponsorships: Tom Welsh stated that it is the responsibility of every club member to seek our club sponsors.  Sponsorship forms have been included in previous newsletters.  He also reported that McDonald Ford has not paid for their spot yet.

Show & Shine: Another great showing at Saginaw Valley Ford.  MCMM donated $350 to the Veteran’s Memorial Plaza.

Frostbite Tour: Stan Bentley reports that the tour will leave from the Exit restaurant at 8:00 am.  An invitation has been extended to the MOCSEM club to join us.

Bavarian Fest: It will be June 14th and 15th.  We will park in the Zehnder’s Park again for $10.00.  On Saturday night we will have dinner at Zehnder’s.  The cost of the dinner is $22.63.  Deanna from Coupar Creations will award prizes on Saturday.  The parade is on Sunday and we will have some of our Mustangs in the parade.

“Be Cool” Car Show: It will be July 11th and 12th.  Friday evening will be the cruise.  Charlie & Dick still need help with the cruise.  The cars will gather in Essexville at Center & Pine.  After driving through the countryside, we will be parking in downtown Bay City.  The car show is on Saturday and will be held on Water Street.  Registration is $15 in advance & $20 the day of show.

Summer Picnic: Our summer picnic will be at Sanford Lake County Park on Saturday, August 23rd.  There is $5.00 admission fee per car.

Special Vote: The ballots were counted on May 17th.  The vote was overwhelming to retain Gary Strappazon as a member.

MCMM REGULAR MEETING 05-19-08 CONTINUED

Membership Participation: Dick Lebsack has suggested that the club donate $5.00 each month to be awarded to a member at the end of each meeting to encourage participation.  All members’ names would be put in a box and at the end of the meeting one name would be pulled out.  If present, that member would win.  If the member is not present his/her name would be listed in the newsletter indicating their missed opportunity.  The money then would be added to the next month.  It is possible that as the months go by there could be an accumulation.  (For the winter snowbirds there is no proxy available for this drawing.  You must be PRESENT to win.)

Miscellaneous: Allan Macdonald reported that he attended his first ever MCA National show in Pensacola, FL.  There were over 300 cars registered.  He said it was quite an experience for him and he was pleased to have received a trophy too.  Congratulations, Allan!

The next MCA National Show will be in Columbus, OH June 21-22.  There will be a MCMM caravan going to the show.

Tom Welsh related the woes of restoring a Mustang experienced by his son Colin.

Respectfully submitted, Linda Kabobel standing in for Diane Williams

THE PREZ SEZ

Here we are in June.  I forgot to say Happy Mothers Day to those deserving!  (I almost said that wrong!)  So I’d better not forget to say Happy Fathers Day!

Don’t forget that this month’s meeting is at the home of Stan & Ruth Bentley where they are gracious enough to host a Strawberry Shortcake meeting each year.  (Ruth, we have heard from Lova’s son Matt, he said to save some shortcake for him!)

On May 17th, we co-hosted the annual Show & Shine at Saginaw Valley Ford.  We had 35 registered cars and of those I think our club had 20 cars!  It was a great day to have the event (in spite of the wind and forecast of rain, which didn’t happen).  The proceeds were once again donated to the Saginaw Veterans Memorial Plaza.

The special vote that was done in the month of April was tallied during the Show and Shine.  The results were very supportive of the club member, with nearly half of the club responding to this issue.  With this vote, the club member has been asked to attend functions and events to the level that he is comfortable.

Don’t forget that we have the Bavarian Festival Pony Corral in Zehnder Park in Frankenmuth, June 14th and 15th, and also a spot in the parade on Sunday, June 15th.  Admission is $10 but that covers both days.  Once again we will have judging and awards on Sunday.  Dinner will be on Saturday at the Zehnder’s restaurant at $22.63 per person (tax/tip included).  This is a family style dinner with tea/coffee furnished.  Soda pop and alcohol drinks will be extra.  The dinner is instead of the cost ($1,500) the club would incur for “renting” the park for the weekend.  So let’s have a good dinner while also having a prime spot for the parade!  If you are interested in attending the dinner, please let me know at (989) 8981-0414 or president@mustangclubmm.com.

July 11th and 12th is the “Be Cool” car show in Bay City.  Each year, our club assists in the directing of the car cruise portion on Friday, July 11th.  This year we will be cruising 11 miles through Hampton Township and Bay City, ending up in downtown Bay City on Washington Ave.  This year, it is a little different, because the plan is to drive double file down Washington Ave. to the parking area (approx. 10 blocks), with no back ups for cross streets.  The past few years, we have had to stop while officers got ahead of us and blocked traffic.  This issue should be resolved with this route correction.  The cruise will leave the parking lot in Hampton Twp. (corner of Pine and Center Rd.) at 6:00 pm promptly.  Sign up and line up will begin as early as 3:00 pm, so you might want to arrive early!  The regular car show on Saturday will begin at 8:00 am.  Pre-registration is $15 (covers both days) and late/gate registration is $20 (covers either or both days).  We will have flyers at our events and meetings or you can go to website at: www.becoolcarshow.net  and print the registration form from there.

We are looking for judges for the Mustang Memories Show hosted by MOCSEM on Sunday, August 10th at Greenmead Park.  Contact Neil Holcomb at: nholmcomb@ford.com (MOCSEM) for more information about the show or Jeff Amo at: ferrisfl@aol.com to sign up for judging.

My wife Lova is doing fine, but she is still awaiting the continuation of her chemotherapy.  Unfortunately, she has had to stop until her blood levels stabilize, which is very frustrating to her.  She thought she would be done by now, but still has 2 treatments to go.  Now she has to worry about infections!  That is why she isn’t attending meetings or events right now.  But her spirits are high and she looks forward to tomorrow, knowing that everyone is behind her and supporting her.

So, until next month keep those cars clean!

Charlie Reinhardt

A Mustanger’s Wife

I love cars –                                                                 We’ll finish this car -

And have all my life,                                                   One way or the other

I enjoy being –                                                             Then we’ll get busy -

A Mustanger’s wife                                                     And look for another

We have tire and seats –                                             Some people make fun -

And manifolds in our den,                                           Of our fixed up old cars,

I’ve seen lovelier furniture –                                       But to me it’s better -

But I don’t remember when.                                       Than golf, fishing, or bars.

When winter comes –                                                  So ladies don’t gripe -

And the cold wind blows,                                           And complain a lot,

Where are my blankets –                                            When hubby comes home -

I’ll bet he knows.                                                        And says, “come see what I’ve got!”

They’re wrapped around the                                       Just jump right in -

Fenders and the grille,                                                With your wrench in your hand

All snug and warm –                                                    Forget all the housework -

And they’ll stay there ‘til…..                                        And enjoy cars with your man.

The body is ready and the engine purrs,

If ever – or even if that occurs                                               (Anonymous)

WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE NEWS

Ford Motor Co. is cruising on over to Ferndale this year.  Birmingham can say goodbye to Mustangs and Good Vibrations during Dream Cruise week.

Ford Motor Co., the city’s official sponsor during the annual car event, announced it is abandoning Birmingham in favor of Ferndale.

Ford used Shain Park as a staging ground for classic car displays and major charity events.  The company also brought in national acts, like the Beach Boys to entertain the public.

In Ferndale, they will take up a prime spot on the corner of 9 Mile and Woodward.

(This is nearer to Mustang Alley!)
