Tips/Comments

By Stan

Hi everyone.   It was good to see so many members at the Show and Shine at Saginaw Valley Ford last month. It was especially nice to see some of the people that I haven’t seen in a while.  Also, we met some new people that signed up there to join our club.  I hope that we made them feel welcome and that they will enjoy coming to our club events.

The Bavarian Festival is June 9th and 10th.  This event is always lots of fun.  There are always lots of people around that want to talk about Mustangs.  They had one, learned how to drive with one or always wanted one.  Then we get to have some of Zehnder’s “World Famous” chicken dinner.  Some of us will even get to be in the parade on Sunday.   Our new club trailer will be on display, it sure looks good.

Don’t forget our trip to northern Michigan; we had fun last year and there is no doubt that we will have an enjoyable time this year.

Our club has been asked by the South East Michigan Mustang Club to come to their show in August to judge their members’ cars.  Their members will continue to judge the show participants cars.  Quentin Levitte is in charge of this and he needs a few more people.  This is a good way to learn more about the Mustang.

On May 24th there were four cars from our club that went to Louisville, Kentucky to the MCA national car show.  Leif and Melissa Johnson each have a Mustang convertible, and they each drove their own car.  Melissa just got a 1996 tangerine convertible.  Leif has a 1993 convertible which he has had for a while.  Quentin & Pat Levitte took their 1965 Fastback and Ruth & I took our 1967 Fastback.  Near Battle Creek we picked up friends who have a 1997 convertible.  We made quite a display going down the highway.

Remember don’t be a stranger.

Ronnie: “Is your new hunting horse well-behaved?”

Johnnie: “He certainly is! He has such good manners that when we come to a fence,

he stops and lets me go first.”

ALARM CLOCK: A convenient device if you like that sort of thing.

He spent a thousand dollars to have his family tree looked up, and found out he was a sap.

MCMM REGULAR MEETING 05-21-07

Meeting called to order by President, Dick Lebsack.  Those present were: Charlie Reinhardt, Diane Williams, Gary Strappazon, Stan & Ruth Bentley, Chris Jansen, Jim Jansen, Cynthia & Paul Wrigglesworth, Gary Riley, Ada & Bill Hoard, Del Zimmerman, Tom Welsh, Lon Hetchler, Bob Dillenbeck, Ron Loudenslager & Jenny Davidson, Gregg Glaviano and guests that became members – Ricky George, Cindy Martin and Alan Macdonald.  We welcomed several new members and also friends back from their winter home.  One proxy from Jack Morton.

Gary Strappazon gave the treasurer’s report.  We picked up sponsorships from Hardcore Motorsports in Brighton (810) 632-7527 and Paul Steinborn of Classic Auto Limited of Flushing (810) 659-5270.

Club Clothing: The club jackets are a big hit.  To purchase a club jacket contact Deana Barcomb of Coupar Creations.  She can do almost anything Mustang.

MCMM Show 2007: Car show flyers are not ready yet.

MCA 2009 Car Show: Gary Strappazon & Charlie Reinhardt attended a MCA national show in Oklahoma to get information to help MCMM in our quest for a national show.  Charlie is still asking for suggestions for a name for the MCA 2009 Show.

Show & Shine: The show was held at the Saginaw Valley Ford dealership on May 19th.  Despite a cold and damp day the show was a success.  A total of 56 cars participated and MCMM was able to donate $560.00 to the Saginaw County Veteran’s Memorial Park.

MOCSEM Judging: MOCSEM car club thanked MCMM for agreeing to send judges to their 2007 show to judge their members’ cars.  They stated that they would be very happy to help MCMM in the future.  A motion was made to ask them for help with the 2009 MCA National Show.  Motion carried.

Bavarian Festival: The Bavarian Festival & parade will be June 9th and 10th in Frankenmuth.  MCMM has the use of Zehnder Park next to Zehnder’s restaurant for a “pony” corral on Saturday, June 9th from 9 am – 4 pm.  There is a $10.00 registration fee.  Dinner at Zehnder’s restaurant will follow with the cost around $20 per person.  This is a good trade-off because to rent the park is very costly.

MCMM June Meeting: The June meeting will be held at the home of Stan & Ruth Bentley for our annual Strawberry Shortcake Meeting.  Meeting to start at 7:00 pm.  Come early to look at Stan’s Mustangs.  Map in newsletter.

Northern MI Cruise: The cruise will be from June 22nd thru the 24th.  Lodging will be at the Maple Lane Resort at a cost of $89 per night.  You need to make your own reservations.  (231) 334-3413

“Be Cool” Car Show: The dates are July 13th thru 15th in Bay City, MI.  MCMM will handle the cruise on Friday, the 13th.  Line up will start at 3:00 pm.  The cruise will be eleven miles long with a police escort.  Call Charlie Reinhardt at (989) 891-0414 if you can help with the cruise.  MCMM will have a designated parking spot at the show which is on Saturday, July 14th beginning at 8:00 am

Summer Picnic: The summer picnic will be July 21st at Silver Lake Park in Fenton from 12 noon to 5:00 pm.  (Map will be in the July newsletter.)  Bring smiles, a dish to pass and beverage (no alcohol), MCMM will provide the hotdogs.  There is a playground, roped off swimming area with lifeguard.  There is a $3 fee per car to get into the park.  Any questions call Diane Williams at (810) 750-1298.

Great Lakes Loons Baseball Game: The date is Sunday, August 5th.  This will be “Turn Back the Clock” Day and we have been invited to bring our Mustangs to this event.  It is an afternoon game.

Two new members talk about their Mustangs: Alan Macdonald wanted to surprise his wife.  HE DID!  Also, it was a celebration for successfully launching all their children on their way to independence.  Rick George stated that his Mustang is the second one he has owned.  It is a 1987 5.0 with only 77, 000 original miles.

Respectfully submitted, Diane Williams, Secretary

THE PREZ SEZ

If you like strawberries and shortcake, I have just the place to get them.  Saddle-up an join us for the annual strawberry shortcake meeting at the home of Stan & Ruth Bentley.  Stan & Ruth serve the best strawberries and shortcake.  We will meet at their home on Monday, June 18th at 7 pm.  Directions to their home are in this newsletter.  If you would like to bring a potential new member to join our club, this is the event to bring them to.  At this event in 1998, I made the decision to join this organization.  This is one of the best decisions I have ever made. New friends, lots of activities, places to go and things to see are just some of the opportunities and adventures that this club provides.  Thanks to Rich and Susan Svatora who introduced me to the club.  So why not offer an opportunity to someone.

I see that ARMO (automotive Restoration Market Organization) is promoting TAKE A KID TO A CAR SHOW.  They dedicate it to sharing the classic car hobby with kids, encouraging involvement by a new generation of automotive enthusiasts and giving kids a constructive choice in how to spend their time.  It should also provide some quality time between a youngster and an adult.  If you know any kids, we have lots of car shows to visit this summer.  For more information: (909) 396-0289, tkcs@sema.org or www.TakeAKidToACarShow.com

A reader from Mustang Monthly asked if there is an index of past articles.  The answer was that Mustang Monthly does not because one of their readers maintains a great searchable index of Mustang Monthly articles (tech) at www.hammar.dyndns.org/magsrch.htm.  Their sister publication Mustang & Fords and the no-longer-published Mustang Illustrated are also included.  It might be a good idea to put this information in your “must know” file.

The web site at www.mustangevolution.com has a collection of Mustang TV commercials.  Check out the years 1964-69 as well as a few from later years.  Also the new web site at www.1972mustangsprint.com has a lot of info about the 1972 cars, including production figures, vintage photos and a link to the Sprint Registry.

TMI Classic Division (mustang & other car upholstery) has introduced some pony style replacement seats for 87-93 fox body Mustangs.  Check them out at their web site www.trmiproducts.com or call 800-624-7960.  I bet they even have Ford Falcon upholstery.  TMI products are sold by many Mustang parts vendors.

Don’t forget the MCMM Frankenmuth Bavarian Festival Pony Corral for all Mustangs at Zehnder Park next to Zehnder’s restaurant.  This is the best seat in the city for parking your car.  The date is Saturday, June 9th from 9 am-4 pm.  Then we as a group will have dinner at Zehnder’s restaurant from 6-8 pm.  This is our third year for this fun event.  All Mustangs are welcome.  Registration is $10.  The dinner is about $20 per person.  For answers to any questions and to let Gary Strappazon know how many persons will attend dinner, call him at (989) 652-4842.  He really needs a dinner count.

Charlie Reinhardt is still accepting name suggestions for our 2009 MCA/MCMM national car show.  If your name is selected, your car may be featured in the show promotional material.  Charlie’s e-mail is: CHASREIN01@aol.com or mail it to him at 500 S. Birney, Bay City, MI  48708.

The Saginaw Valley Ford Show & Shine was a great success.  Those in attendance who helped make this event a success were: David Baker, Stan & Ruth Bentley, Dave & Diana DeSilva, Bob Dillenbeck, Gregg Glaviano & Mary Leinberger, Lon Hetchler, Bill & Ada Hoard, Chris Jansen, Leif & Melissa Johnson, Dick Lebsack, Quentin & Pat Levitte and son Nathan, Ron Loudenslager & Jenny Davidson, Jim & Rose Maier, Charlie & Lova Reinhardt, Gary Riley, Gary Strappazon, Tom Volpe, Jim & Renee Waswick, Jim & Toni Wentworth, Mike Winter and son Michael, Paul & Cynthia Wrigglesworth and Del Zimmerman and his daughter.  Please forgive me if I missed listing your name on this list of helpers.  Many thanks to Ron Loudenslager and Jenny Davidson for their hard work in putting this show together.  A nice job well done.  Our club presented the Saginaw County Veteran’s Memorial Plaza with a cash donation of $560.  Including the raffles and other donations, the total donation came to $727.  The Saginaw County Veterans Memorial Plaza group will also be at our car show in September.

I hope to see everyone at the Bavarian Festival Pony Corral on June 9th.

Keep Smiling

Dick Lebsack, President

LADIES CORNER

BLACK MAGIC CAKE

RECIPE PROVIDED BY TONI HARRIS

1 ¼ CUP FLOUR                                                  2 CUPS SUGAR

¼ CUP COCOA POWDER                                         2 TSP. BAKING SODA

1 TBS. BAKING POWDER                                       1 TSP. SALT

2 EGGS                                                           ½ CUP VEGETABLE OIL

1 TSP. VANILLA

2 TBS. INSTANT COFFEE PLUS WATER TO EQUAL 1 CUP

1 TBS. VINEGAR PLUS MILK TO EQUAL 1 CUP

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Combine dry ingredients in large bowl, add eggs, coffee, sour milk, vanilla and oil.  Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.  (Batter will be thin.)  Pour into greased pan/pans.  I like to make it in a bundt pan.  Bake 35-40 minutes for bundt pan, a little less for 2 pans.  Invert immediately on wire rack.  Cool completely before removing from pan.

**My mom made this cake when I was growing up; it’s always been my favorite!  Now I enjoy making it for our family and it has become their favorite too!  It is so moist there is no need to frost it.  But you can if you like and it’s great that way too.  Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!  Toni Harris

TRAVERSE CITY AND OLD MISSION PENINSULA PONY CRUISE

The 2nd MCMM Northern Pony Cruise is June 22-24.  We will meet at the Midland Holiday Inn at Eastman Road Exit at 2 pm.  We will caravan to Glen Lake and stay at the Maple Lane Resort.  The room rate is the same as last year, $89 per night.  Please call Rick at Maple Lane Resort for reservations.  The phone number is (231) 334-3413.  Plans are to have dinner at Art’s Tavern in Glen Arbor on Friday.  On Saturday morning we will cruise the Old Mission Peninsula.  Rolling hills, a morning sun rise, tours of the wineries, having lunch, viewing a lighthouse an driving a great car make for the right mixture for a pony cruise.  My plan is to have dinner at the famous Boone’s Long Lake Inn southwest of Traverse City on Long Lake.  They are known for their “Legendary Steaks and Seafood”.  After dinner we cruise back to Glen Lake or find a setting sunset and then a camp fire before retiring for the night.  In the morning we head for home.  We need to limit the cruise to 10 cars.  Call me if you have any questions or comments.  Club members that have signed up for the cruise, please call me, I need to know if my list is accurate.  Thank you, Dick Lebsack (989) 631-9536.

IN THE HERD SPOTLIGHT

This time we meet David Baker of Essexville.  David was one of one of the participants in the “pit crew” contest last year at the “Be Cool” car show.  (This was won by the MCMM Club again!)  This is the same time that he joined the club, so it must be a really memorable weekend!  David has dreamed of owning a fastback Mustang for almost 20 years and in 2005 he was finally able to make it happen.  He purchased a 1965 blue fastback GT clone that shows 33,000 miles.  It has a 289 V-8 and factory color.  Future plans for the car include upgrades to brakes, steering and a new paint job.  While not attending to the Mustang, he enjoys working with children and outdoor activities such as walking, hiking and camping.  But when the weather turns sour, he enjoys his John Wayne movie collection

IN THE HERD SPOTLIGHT

This time we meet Charles and Lova Reinhardt of Bay City.  You all probably know them for the Mustang that they “don’t” drive!  They have 2 boys, the oldest is in Colorado and the youngest, Matthew who is in the National Guard and many of you have met when he visited in the summers.  Charlie & Lova are members of the Marauder Club and the MCA.  Their current Mustang is quite a “platypus” of sorts!  It   seems the further into the tear down they get, the more cars they find were used to make that one.  It’s actually titled as a 1966 red 6 cylinder coupe.  Upgrades are currently being done and include: 351 Cleveland engine, C-4 transmission, several body modifications, brakes and suspension upgrades (to V-8 standards) and new wiring.  During the non-automotive times (which is getting less and less!!) there’s plenty of yard work and house work to do.
