TIPS/COMMENTS
BY STAN
Many activities are taking place in the month of June and we are fortunate to be able to participate in them. They are listed elsewhere in this edition of the Horsin’ Around newsletter.
Those going on the Leelanau County cruise, bring your CB radio if you have one. It’s always nice to have one in case of an emergency and mostly just chat with each other while traveling. Those of us with older cars might want to think about taking along some spare parts, such as points, fuel pump and maybe a fuel filter, and some basic hand tools. The newer cars don’t have as much trouble and we probably could not fix them anyway. It sure sounds like a lot of fun and a chance to take some great pictures.
Quentin and Pat Levette are the only ones from our club that went to the National MCA show in Johnson City, TN. They got a first place award for their ‘66 high performance coupe. Hopefully, they will tell us more about their trip and the show.
Prior to the last monthly meeting I don’t think that too many of us were thinking about heading down to the Woodward Dream Cruise in August. It was brought up by Al Rogers that we were missing out on one of the biggest and best car shows in the country. I think that it is in the works now that if there are enough us going that we will get to all park together. Mike Winter is working on this for us. (See related Woodward Cruise article elsewhere in the newsletter.)
Remember don’t be a stranger.
Doctor: "I don’t like the looks of your husband."
Wife" I don’t either, but he is good to the children."
Doctor: "how is your wife getting along with her reducing diet?"
Mr. Small: "Fine. She disappeared last week."
"Did you go to another doctor before you came to me?" asked the doctor.
"No," replied the patient, "I went to a druggist."
"And what foolish advice did he give you?"
"He told me to come and see you, said the patient.

MCMM REGULAR MEETING 05-22-2006
Meeting called to order by President Dick Lebsack at 7:05 pm
Those present were: Quentin & Pat Levitte, Lon Hetchler, Del Zimmerman, Chris Jansen, Tim Mace, Stan & Ruth Bentley, Diane Williams, Charlie & Lova Reinhardt, Dick Lebsack, Linda & Gary Strappazon, Gregg Glaviano & Mary Leinberger, Robert & Gina Dillenbeck, Tom Welsh, Bill & Ada Hoard, Al Rogers, April Douglass, Jim & Rose Maier, Gary Riley, Mike & Rebecca Winter, Dave DeSilva, and Mike & Carolyn Coats.
Dick Lebsack introduced our newest member, April Douglass from Midland. She joined the club to meet nice people and to enjoy her Mustang. April has come to the right place. Welcome, April.
April Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.
Property Chairman: Gary Riley is compiling a list of MCMM property. The property will be divided between two club members so someone will be available to distribute the property when needed.
Historian: Lova Reinhardt has filled one album & has started another for 2006.
Membership Chairman: Chris Jansen reported on the new members since last month. Also, told about the ongoing membership contest where the member that gets the most new members will receive a club shirt.
MCMM 2006 Car Show: Gregg Glaviano is working hard on obtaining sponsors. Gregg and Ron Loudenslager are working on the trophies. Show flyers should be available the first of June.
"Be Cool" Car Show: The dates are Friday, July 7th and Saturday, July 8th. Pre-registration is $15 for both days. The cruise is on Friday night with two concerts. Saturday is the car show and the Pit Crew Competition. We need recruits for the Pit Crew.
Michigan State Police Car: Del Zimmerman reports that the engine is in great shape but the car needs brakes. Chris Jansen will paint the car. If we do a good documentation on the restoration of the car, Al Rogers can an article put in a Mustang magazine. Club members are working on sponsors for the co-op venture. We hope to have the car ready for our show in September.
OLD BUSINESS:
Show & Shine: Our Show & Shine was held on May 20th. It was a nice sunny day, a little bit on the cool side but NO RAIN! We had a good number of club members with their Mustangs on display. We had a total of 43 cars registered. The grill was fired up with chicken, ribs & corn on the cob. Door prizes were given out. The club donated $430 to the Saginaw Veterans Memorial Park.
Lelanau County Pony Cruise: The dates are June 23-25. Contact Dick Lebsack (989) 631-9536 if interested. There are 8 or 9 couples signed up to go. Members participating should get their reservations at Maple Lane Resort as soon as possible. The cost is $89 per night. For reservations call (231) 334-3413. We will meet at the Holiday Inn on US 10 & Eastman Rd exit and leave as a group at 2:30 pm on Friday.
Bavarian Fest Pony Corral: The dates are Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11th in Zehnder Park. On Saturday night we will have dinner at Zehnders as a group. The cost is $20 per person and must be prepaid by June 3rd. If you are going to eat with the group, please let Gary Strappazon know by June 3rd at (989) 652-4842. We will have 5 or 6 club member’s cars in the parade.
NEW BUSINESS:
Car Detailing Seminar: Bob Dillenbeck has made arrangements for this seminar to be held at Bay City Motor Company in Bay City on Saturday, June 3rd from 10:00 am to 12 noon. There is NO FEE and you will receive samples of detailing products that they use. If interested contact Bob at (989) 799-2065.
Car Restoration Seminar: This seminar has been offered to the club at a reduced price. The seminar will be taught by MCMM member Joe Babiasz. Time & place to be determined and more information to follow.
Popcorn Machine: Gary Riley made a suggestion that the club check into purchasing a popcorn machine to be used at our car show.
Flushing Cruise: It was decided to have the club go to the Flushing Cruise on Saturday, June 17th in place of the cancelled outing to the KCQ Musicfest. Gregg Glaviano says to get there around 3:00 pm to get a prime spot. Right next to the cruise location is the park where our summer picnic in July will be held. Take I-75 to the Pierson Rd. exit, go west. Follow it until you hit the end which turns right in front of Prestige Chevrolet. Go about a mile west on Main St. until you come to Cherry St. at the light, Little Caesar’s is at that intersection.
Reproduction Sales Sticker: Dick Lebsack reported getting a reproduction sales sticker for Mustangs built between 1964 ½ to 1973. The contact person is Tony Garcia at 1-770-928-3662. Quentin Levitte stated he has dealt with Tony and he is very reputable.
Club Clothing Chairperson: Del Zimmerman (989) 799-7867 and Gary Riley (989) 631-6601, have volunteered to do the ordering of club merchandise for you.
Christmas Party: We need a committee for the 2006 Christmas Party. The Bay City Yacht Club has been suggested.
April Douglas: She shared with us her love for Mustangs since she was 14. Her first Mustang was a 1979. Years went by until she was able to purchase a 2005. She lost her job & had to sell it. But happy days are here as she is back on her feet & now owns a 2006 Mustang she named Bella.
Mike Winter: He is at it again. He sold a Mustang and low and behold he found two more. An orange GT convertible and a Mach 1. Mike asked Rebecca to help him decide which one to get. Rebecca picked the Mach 1 because "she liked the thing sticking out of the hood".
Winners: 50/50 winner was Al Rogers, the oil change winner was April Douglass, the hat winner was Rose Maier and the Parts Bucket winner was April Douglass
NOTE: OUR JUNE REGULAR MEETING WILL BE AT THE HOME OF STAN & RUTH BENTLEY FOR OUR ANNUAL STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE MEETING ON MONDAY, JUNE 19TH.
Respectfully submitted, Diane Williams, Secretary
THE PREZ SEZ
The Show & Shine at Saginaw Valley Ford was very successful. A big thank you to Ron Loudenslager and Jennifer Davidson for the hard work they put into the show. Well Done! We had over 40 members there to help out. We gave the Saginaw County Veterans Memorial Plaza $430. This brings to a total of $1,100 that we have donated to them from our last two Show & Shine Shows. They have invited our club to their "Appreciation Day Picnic" on Wednesday, June 14 (Flag Day) from 11 am-2 pm. The Memorial Plaza is located in Hoyt Park in Saginaw. Let’s see if some of us and our Mustangs can show up in their honor!
Don’t forget the Pony Corral II in Frankenmuth at Zehnder Park, June 10-11. Saturday we get started at 9 am and go to 5 pm. We park our Mustangs in Zehnder Park for our own little Mustang car show. At 6 pm we eat at Zehnder’s and have their famous family chicken dinner ($20 a person) and then we cruise to Birch Run for an ice cream at Culver’s. They have great frozen custard and Mr. Merchand, the owner loves Mustangs. On Sunday we start around 9 am at Zehnder Park. We have room to feature six Mustangs in the parade and will need some additional cars for dignitaries to ride in the parade. We need the total number of members attending the dinner and the parade. Contact Gary Strappazon 989) 652-4842 or me (989) 631-9536. (You must prepay for your dinner prior to June 7th, you will not be included unless either Gary or Dick receives your payment prior to June 7th.)
Saturday, June 17th we will meet in Flushing at the A&W Root Beer for the evening cruise. Our club will meet at 3 pm at the A&W on Cherry Street. For more information contact Gregg Glaviano (810) 659-7165
Our June 19th meeting will be at the home of Stan & Ruth Bentley at 7 pm. This is the annual strawberry shortcake meeting. This is a MCMM tradition of enjoying some great strawberries and shortcake. Directions to the Bentley home are in the newsletter.
Del Zimmerman and Gary Riley are the Clothing & Merchandise Representatives. They will take your MCMM clothing orders. There are some nice polo shirts and sweat shirts available to members. They are also developing a new jacket for our club and are looking for ideas and suggestions. If you would like to help them design a club jacket, get in touch with them. Thank you guys for volunteering.
Speaking of volunteering….the members in the MCMM are great, you ask for ideas or help and many members step forward. Another example, is my request for help to organize the Christmas Party and four people volunteered. One of the volunteers is our newest member as of the last meeting. We will hear more about our party in future newsletters.
Ruth Bentley is waiting for your call for the MCMM car antenna flag. It has the MCMM logo on it. Her phone number is (810) 688-3909. The price is right! (The supply is dwindling – only 2 left!)
The August MCMM regular membership meeting will be held at the Bay City Motor Co. on Water Street in Bay City on Monday, August 21, instead of the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth. Please put this on your calendar because you will want to see some very fine classic cars.
Keep Smiling, Dick Lebsack

WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE
Fellow MCMM Members, we are going to try and gather as a club event during the Woodward Dream Cruise on Mustang Alley. The Woodward Dream Cruise is Saturday, August 19th. Bob Wille at Ford will work to secure us a group parking area if we can register soon and get a count of who will be attending. Please register at www.motorcityterminators.org/mustangalley/ as soon as possible and put "MCMM Parking" in the club field of the registration form. After you register please e-mail me at mdwinter@tds.net to let me know you are registered so I can coordinate this with the event staff. This is a great event and a wonderful chance to get club exposure. We will follow up with further discussions at our monthly meetings but it is important that you register right away so we can take advantage of this great opportunity.

IN THE HERD SPOTLIGHT
A long and happy life together. . . . That’s what we all want isn’t it? Well
Don & Judy VanSickle have made it 48 years & they are still going strong! Between the two of them, they enjoy traveling, car shows, golfing &old cars. Of all the cars owned by the VanSickle’s, their 1968 red Mustang GT convertible with black interior would be the most interesting to the Mustang club. Don states that a Probe Industries 347 cid engine turning an AOD transmission powers it. Power is then put to the ground through a Ford 9 inch rear with 3.70 gears attached to a Detroit Locker. Stopping power is provided by 4 wheel disc brakes. All this combines for a very sharp looking and excellent driving vehicle. This car has won awards at the the Mustang’s 30th, 35th and 40th Anniversary Shows and at the Mustang Club of America 20th Anniversary Show. Don and Judy are planning to attend the MCA 30th Anniversary show and will probably have another award to show for their efforts. Other vehicles that they own are a 1963 red Thunderbird Landau top car with a 390 cid engine topped by 427 heads and intake, making a top performer. The other noteworthy vehicle is a 1949 2-door red Custom with bubble skirts and side pipes.

IN THE HERD SPOTLIGHT
If there is any member of our club who bleeds Ford blue, it will be
Tom Welsh II. You see, his family owned Welsh Motor Sales in Grayling, MI during the 1950’s & 1960’s. For him it was a great time to love Fords & he especially remembers the new car introductions in the fall. If you are old enough, then you remember that the cars were covered up until "THE DAY". His favorites were 1957 & 1958. His love of early Fords led him to own a 1930 Model "A" 4-door, V-8 60, which sounded nice with the dual exhaust! A 1939 Ford Tudor Deluxe (with a 1985 V-8, dual exhaust, headers & a big carburetor). This led him to Mustangs. He has owned several in the past, including a 1965 2+2 powered by a 289 4V with burgundy exterior, black interior & console, a 1970 Mach I powered by 351 W & automatic with white exterior/black stripes & black interior. This car succumbed to rust & was replaced by a bronze Pinto wagon!?! His list continues to include a "European Mustang" (as he put it) – 1976 Mercury Capri II powered by the 2.3 liter, then a 1994 white Mustang V-6 convertible. This last car was traded in on his current car, a 2000 Candy Red Special Model V-6. He & his family has made a few minor additions to his fun daily driver, including GT fog lights, spoiler, billet screen grill, K&N intake filter & a custom made strut tower brace. They are looking at adding a high-flow intake system & more interior upgrades in the future. Tom & Lynn still dream of owning another 1965 2+2 and/or a 2008 GT convertible.Tom says he & his wife
Lynn will be celebrating their 30th anniversary on June 12th with their children, Erin, Megan & Colin. Tom lets us know he enjoys downhill skiing, canoeing, watching trains (local & traveling to watch), model trains & model cars. He has had lots of fun since joining MCMM & taking part in all of the club functions. While, he has had many other voluntary involvements, the MCMM is the only truly "just-for-fun" one.

NOTES AND INFO
The Mustang has reclaimed its title as the best-selling convertible.
"On the performance front, you’ve seen the Shelby GT500 and you’ll soon be able to experience the most powerful factory-built Mustang in history for yourselves. At the New York Auto Show, Ford show-cased two other elements of their strategy-the coming together of personalized performance and Ford Racing Performance Parts-in a uniquely Ford way and distinctively Shelby way. It’s called the new 2006 Ford Shelby GT-H Mustang. The "H" stands for "Hertz Edition" because this is a 40th anniversary celebration of the original 1966 Shelby GT 350H "rent-a-racer". It was a crazy idea that Carroll and Hertz folk came up with back in ’65 and ’66. To think you could rent a 306 horsepower Shelby for U.S. $17 a day and 17 cents per mile . . . . .and take it racing. You will be able to rent a Shelby GT-H Mustang exclusively at select Hertz locations this summer. If you want to actually buy one, you will have to wait a bit. After what I’m sure will be "light duty" with Hertz, these cars will eventually find their way to a collector car auctions and Ford dealer used vehicle lots before the end of the year."

I thought I would just pass this along to anyone who maybe looking for a late-model, clean Mustang. Roy O’Brien Ford, the dealer that I bought my Mach I from called to say that they just received another one. It is just like mine with the exception that this one is a five-speed and has only 3,000 miles on it.
