Tips/Comments
 by Stan

The other day Ruth & I stopped in to see Dennis and Leslie Haver. These two brothers are members of our Club and are into drag racing. We made this unannounced stop and so what were they doing? Working on the drag car, what else. This is a great machine that started out as a 1966 fastback and has turned into a screaming machine that Dennis said will do the quarter mile in nine seconds. The interior is all tubing and bracing that makes a strong cage to protect the driver. In the back there is one huge set of tires, and up front there is an engine that will make those tires smoke. They not only have one drag car they have several in different stages of assembly and/or repair. Dennis like all Mustangers likes to show you all of his cars. After touring all of the buildings we started to feel that we were taking up too much of their time and so we had to say good bye. We sure are planning on going back for another visit.

While at the Show and Shine in Midland I had a chance to talk to a fellow who has owned eleven hundred Mustangs. I can’t even imagine having that many cars. He is located up around Clare somewhere. It would be nice if we could get together as a group and go and see his place. Although, I don’t know how many he has now, I have a feeling that some of them are in bad shape.

Remember don’t be a stranger.
You know you are from Michigan when:
You know how to play {and pronounce} EUCHRE.
You know how to pronounce MACKINAC.
You bake with SODA and drink a POP.

The Prez Sez

Howdy to all you Mustangers out there!
Well we have had quite a month! On the first weekend, Stan & I attended the National MCA Board meeting in Flat rock. There was the auto Alliance Plant tour & the last official Dearborn Assembly Plant tour. They called the tours: “From the Flintstones to the Jetsons”. That sentence really speaks for itself. There was certainly nostalgia & more than one person shed a tear over the closing of the longest continuously running manufacturing plant in the world! Luckily, the employees still have jobs, the Mustang will continue & it will continue to be made not only in the USA, but still in Michigan. The MCA Board meeting was not unlike our meeting, with many people & many ideas.

The next event for the month was the visit by the nationwide caravan, The Great Pony Drive II. I met the Pony Drive at the Michigan Welcome Center at milepost 4 on I-75 and drove with them to World Headquarters for a day called Mustang Mania where we met Edsel Ford II, Bill Ford and Sir Mack Rice, the writer and original singer of “Mustang Sally”. We were given lunch, a concert, a new Ford History book & later a 4-course dinner at the Big Fish at Fairlane Mall. Friday consisted of a tour of the new Mustang plant at Flat Rock (Auto Alliance) & a visit to the Roush Collection (Museum) in Livonia.

Saturday, May 22nd was our first Show & Shine at Midland Toys R Us. Although it was a cool, rainy day, we still had fun, learned a lot and raised $330 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. We have heard several comments about another one for next year! I want to thank all who were there: Gary & Linda Riley, Rich & Susan Svatora, Stan & Ruth Bentley, Bill & Ada Hoard, Terry & Carol Jozwiak (nice to see them out again…with their NEW black GT conv.) and last but not least, Dick Lebsack. Thanks especially to Dick; he worked very hard on this show.

On Wednesday, May 26th we paid another visit to the Roush Collection. Stan, Ruth, Bill & Ada were there with me and my oldest son, Gary II. I had the opportunity to put my freshly tuned-up 1992 former MSP patrol car on the Roush Dynamometer! This opportunity is 4 times a year.

Things are happening! I spoke with Becky @ KCQ. We will meet next week to firm up our plans for Saturday, June 19th. My notes from the May meeting reflect the following Club members will be there to work: Bill (& Ada?), Dominic, Dick & Nyla, Stan & Ruth, Gregg, Leif, Rich (& Susan) and myself. Please let me know if I have any of these names wrong as I will be giving them to Becky. She will be getting us a shirt. We can always use more people. See you there.

Finally, we are sending the $100.00 memorial for Shirley Fensler to: Support for people with Oral, head & Neck Cancer. Also, we have an anonymous payment for dues for Frank Fensler. When I told Frank of that he was happy as he wanted to get more active with the Club.

Gary
