TIPS/COMMENTS

BY STAN

Well another year has rolled around and we are getting ready for our September show at Birch Run.  On this subject I think that we should be looking for another location to hold our show next year.  We have to pay the city of Birch Run $225 for a permit just to have the show in the city limits.  Then we pay the Expo Center $500 for the use of their parking lot.  With all the other expenses we have we are looking at over $1,200 before we ever get started.  If someone has a location other than Birch Run please let the Board of Directors know.  It could be in an old parking lot and even in another city in the mid-Michigan area.  It does not have to be a blacktop lot, it could be grass, as we used to have it on grass.  Ideally, it would be nice to have it at a Ford dealer.  Even if we had less cars maybe we could get away from the large expense.

On June 20th there were three cars from our club and another from Battle Creek that left the mid Michigan area for the national show in Columbus, Ohio.  We left early and got there about 3pm. The show site was right at the hotel so we didn’t have to drive back and forth.  Friday afternoon was spent cleaning up the cars, and then it was off to the steakhouse for dinner.  All the other Mustang people were there so it took a while to get back to the hotel for the ice cream social. Saturday morning was spent cleaning and lots of talking to old friends that we haven’t seen since last year.  About noon Quentin and I started for the judges meeting.  He got to judge the older Daily Drivers and I wound up with the newer Occasional Drivers.  Sunday morning was a time to relax and take a look at all the cars that were there.  After the awards were presented we started home.  It was predicted to rain most of the day Sunday.  We drove about 45 minutes and sure enough we got into a down pour.  It rained on and off most of the way home.  We got home about 10pm.  It was getting dark and we had driven far enough with those old head lights.  We had a good trip.  We were really impressed with this club and the show that they put on.  This was their first national show.  The most important thing that we noticed was the number of members that were working.  This club has a membership of over 200 and they had over a 100 members on site working.

Remember don’t be a stranger.

MCMM REGULAR MEETING 06-16-08

STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE AT THE BENTLEY’S

Meeting called to order by President Charlie Reinhardt.  Those in attendance were: Dick Lebsack, Diane Williams, Quentin Levitte, Rose Maier, Linda Kabobel, Gary & Linda Riley, Ada & Bill Hoard, Cynthia & Paul Wrigglesworth, Greg Nordin, Jim & Kathy Jansen, Charlie Reinhardt, Stan & Ruth Bentley, Leif & Melissa Johnson, Chris, Mindy & Madelyn (who signed her own name).  There were no reported proxies.

Treasurer’s Report received from Gary Riley.

MCMM Minutes of the regular meeting of May 19th approved as written.

Property: Gary Riley reports no change from last month.

Membership: Linda Kabobel reports one new membership for the month of June.

Historian: Lova Reinhardt has requested to be relieved of this post.  Lova has done a great job for us for the past several years.  She is recovering from cancer and needs to focus her strength on her recovery.  Please let Charlie Reinhardt know if you are willing to take over the job.  (989) 891-0414.

Club Clothing: If you have a need for embroidered items, hats, shirts etc. contact Linda Kabobel at (989) 791-5020 or Coupar Creations – Deanna Barcomb at (989) 652-6787 or www.couparcreations.com.

MCMM 2008 Car Show: Quentin reports that the portable toilets have been reserved.  We are getting 5 instead of the 4 that we have had in the past.  He checked on the possibility of having them with outside hand washers but they were quite a bit more costly.  He also has reserved the Dyno Guy to be at the show.  Stan talked about the new DJ that has been hired for the show.  He has enough speakers and cable to be able to reach the entire show field.  There was discussion about placement of vendors and spectator parking.  Quentin passed around a sign up sheet for jobs that need to be filled for the show.  Quentin put out a request that if anyone had a business or organization that we should contact for our show, please give the information to Quentin.  He is going to compile a list of potential donors.  This is will avoid businesses getting duplicate requests from our club.

Bavarian Festival: A vote was taken and approved to apply for the Zehnder Park for 2009 which will be the 45th Anniversary of the Mustang.  Charlie will check into this.

“Be Cool” Car Show: This is held in Bay City July 11th and 12th.  The Cruise hosted by our Club is on Friday night.  Sign up begins at 3:00 pm with the cruise starting at 6:00 pm.  The car show will be on Saturday.

MOCSEM Show: Our club has been asked again to judge their members’ cars.  The show is Sunday, August 10th at Greenmead Park in Livonia.  Jeff Amo is in charge of getting the judges.  If you are interested in helping to judge the cars please contact him at (989) 865-8725 or ferrisfl@aol.com.

MCMM summer Picnic: Rose Maier has reserved a pavilion at the Sanford Lake County Park for Saturday, August 23rd.  There will be a $5 admission fee per car.  Bring a dish to pass.  The Club will furnish the hotdogs.

MCMM Christmas Party: Rose Maier reports that she is having difficulty finding a place.  Everything is already booked for the early part of December.  If you have any ideas or suggestions please contact Rose at: (989) 631-3178 or KMKVets@aol.com.

Meeting was adjourned.  Everyone enjoyed the strawberry shortcake provided by Stan & Ruth.

50/50 was won by Leif Johnson.

As you know we have started a little incentive to get more members to attend the meetings.  Each month a member’s name will be drawn and they will receive $5.  If they are not there the money accumulates to the next month.  This month’s member was MICHAEL DOHNING.  Sorry you were not here to collect the money.  In July the jackpot will be $10!

Respectfully submitted, Diane Williams, Secretary

THE PREZ SEZ

Happy Independence Day!  Wow, we are half way through this year and still have so much to do!  The next thing happening is the “Be Cool” Car Show & Cruise on July 11th and 12th in Bay City.  I spoke at length about this event last month so I won’t bore you again, but if you would like more information, contact me at (989) 891—0414 or go to their web page at www.becoolcarshow.net.

Last month, we were at Zehnder Park in downtown Frankenmuth for the annual Bavarian Festival.  Over the 2 days we had 19 cars on display and 4 of them were in the parade on Sunday.  It appeared that everyone who attended had a great time and enjoyed themselves.

In June there also was a MCA National Show held in Columbus, OH.  We had several members attend this show.  I hope they got an award and I am sure they will have some good stories to tell.

The MCMM is having their annual Club Picnic on Saturday, August 23rd at Sanford Lake Park in Midland County.  Let Rose Maier know if you are planning to attend.  (989) 631-3178 or KMKVets@aol.com.  Rose is also handling the MCMM Christmas Party this year.  She is trying to find a place to host the event.  If you have a suggestion on this, contact her, I am sure she would appreciate it.

Woodward Dream Cruise is fast approaching too!  However, this year there were many changes to the event.  Mike Winter would like to know if the club is still interested in going to this event or changing to go to the “Back to the Bricks” event in Flint.  One of the major event changes at WDC is that all the cars MUST remain parked until 6:00 pm, making for a longer day than most may want to be involved with.  You can contact Mike Winter at (810) 953-0542 or myblack78cobra@hotmail.net.

MOCSEM’s annual show will be held on Sunday, August 10th.  Jeff Amo has agreed to head up the judges group to represent MCMM.  We have about 8 judges who have volunteered but more are needed.  The more judges we have the easier the job will be on all involved.  If you are interested in being a judge, please contact Jeff and let him know.  (989) 865-8725 or ferrisfl@aol.com.

Now on to what has become the final note in my articles, my wife’s current status.  She has finally had her last chemotherapy, which the doctor has stated is only a precautionary treatment.  Her spirits rose extremely high on this note (as if there were any doubt!)  On a side note, she has asked me to put forth to the club members that the position of Club Historian is open.  She wishes that she could continue in this position, but between her work (part time even though she is going through treatment) and the treatment, she doesn’t think that she can give the attention that is deserves.  So, if there is a member out there that is interested, let me know.  (989) 891-0414 or chasrein01@aol.com.

Until next time . . . . .

Charlie Reinhardt

FROSTBITE TOUR, MAY 31, 2008

BY QUENTIN LEVITTE

When Pat and I arrived at the Expressway restaurant most of the club members were enjoying their second cup of coffee.  Ruth handed out packets of information that outlined the day’s activities.  Included in the packet was candy, a United States game and some of her warped humor.  Those in the group included: Stan & Ruth Bentley, Dick & Nyla Lebsack, Paul & Cynthia Wrigglesworth, Bill & Ada Hoard, Gary & Linda Riley, Mike & Rebecca Winter, Linda Kabobel & friend and Quentin & Pat Levitte.

Promptly at 8:30, we made our last trip to the restrooms before heading to our cars.  Stan and Ruth were in the lead car and Pat and I were bringing up the rear.  However, we had to wait for Bill and Ada.  Bill was in the process of closing a deal with someone interested in buying his old Lincoln, but after swapping names and addresses we were on our way and caught up with the rest of the group in short order.

Our little tour group drove through historic, downtown Frankenmuth as we headed for the McDonald’s restaurant in Vassar.  This leg of the journey took 35 minutes but, apparently old people have weak bladders as about a third of the folks ran for the restrooms before getting MORE coffee and a nice cookie from Ruth.  As we stood around discussion turned to our next stops.  Dick Lebsack and Linda Kabobel asked to stop in Clifford because they had “ties” to this small farming community.  We cruised through Silverwood and pulled into Clifford around 9:45.  Everyone was surprised when people came out of the local restaurant and nearby homes to look over the parade of Mustangs parked downtown.  We shared stories with the “townies” until it began to sprinkle and Stan barked orders to mount up. . . . we were heading to Marlette and Kraft Automotive to view this beautiful auto collection.  Pat and I stood in line to use the restroom before looking over this beautiful collection of cars and automotive memorabilia.  (No more coffee for the two of us.)

Mr. Kraft has a wonderful group of low mileage old cars and he told us stories about many of these cars and trucks.  You could tell that each car had a special place in his heart.  After saying our “goodbyes” we pointed the Mustangs north towards the Octagon Barn.

The folks at the Octagon Barn were ready to take our group on a walk back in time as they explained how farming was done in the early 1900’s.  We visited the barn and old farm house before heading for the Levitte’s for hotdogs.

Dick said, “I’m having dessert first” as everybody lined up for dogs and beans.  After eating folks played a little game of “name that state”.   The winner was Linda who won a bottle of car detailer and a box of chocolates.  Ada had the least number of correct answers and she won a placemat of the United States. . . . Ruth’s humor at work again.

We sat around with full bellies swapping lies and laughing when our newest club members Vic & Jean Trish arrived in their beautiful yellow 2000 convertible.  After introductions were made, Vic headed for the food like he had been in the club for years.  Our youngest member Madelyn brought her mom and dad, Chris & Mindy Jansen.  Madelyn had to suffer through every grandma in the group holding her, but she was a good sport and allowed each grandma a special time with her.  Just before the day ended Dick made his last move on the dessert table and headed for his car.

Mustangs and friends . . . . what a perfect day.  Thanks, to Stan & Ruth for planning this delightful day.

WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE BY MIKE WINTER

There are some big changes for Mustang Alley this year, some good and well, you decide.  Ford will now join the city of Ferndale and it looks like they will be more involved in Mustang Alley.  We are still awaiting more details.  The registration fee has bee raised to $20 and the show will be judged.  The other consideration is that once you are parked, the car must remain in place until 6:00 pm.  I think this will be a great opportunity for our club, but will be a longer day than most expected.  At our club meeting June 16th we will need to get a consensus of who will be interested so we can proceed with plans.  For details go to www.motorcityterminators.org and read the updates.  If you decide to register, PLEASE put MCMM in the club affiliation field so we can sort by club and know who is registered.  If we have a group going, I will continue to work with the Terminators and Ford to try and get us club parking.  Below is information from the Terminator website on some of the parking details.  If you have questions, please e-mail me at: myblack78cobra@hotmail.com or call (810) 358-9705.

UPDATE OF MUSTANG ALLEY: SO FAR THE REGISTRATION IS GOING SLOW FOR THE EVENT AND IT LOOKS LIKE INTEREST FROM OUR CLUB HAS DWINDLED.  IF YOU WANT TO CARAVAN TO MUSTANG ALLEY, IT CAN BE DISCUSSED AT THE JULY MEETING.  WE WILL NOT BE ORGANIZING A FORMAL CARAVAN THIS YEAR.  IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE FLINT SHOW FOR THE SAME DATE WE WILL DISCUSS THAT AND THE CRUISE FOR THURSDAY, AUGUST 14TH FROM GRAND BLANC TO FLINT.
