Tips/Comments

Over the last few years I have gotten to know Sam Murphy from Georgia who owns a restoration shop. A fellow that Sam has done considerable work for bought his wife a new 1968 Mustang Fastback which she drove to and from work. She loved the car and was very protective of it. The sad part is that she died at a young age. Well the car sat in a warehouse for many years, uncovered and collecting dust. Of course Sam always wanted to buy the car but it was never for sale. Sam continued to do work for the gentleman over the years but still he would not sell the car to Sam.

Well two years ago the old gentleman passed on and what was in his will? You guessed it. He had left the car to Sam in his will. After a lot of cleaning the car is in great shape and could be driven anywhere. Strange things happen to us as Mustang people, and as I have always said, every Mustang has a story if they could only talk.

Don’t forget all the things that are coming up that our Club will be involved in. The “Be Cool” in Bay City, our Club picnic and the many other shows and events going on, including our show in September.

Remember don’t be a stranger.

American convertible production peaked in 1965, when 507,000 were sold.
During World War II, the top sellers on the black market were whiskey and tires.
In 1899, there were only 144 miles of hard surfaced roads, but there were 13,824 cars on them.

THE PREZ SEZ

Well it is July 1st and Gary is writing the newsletter article and patient Ruth is waiting for it. My computer was sick most of last week. On Tuesday, it was admitted to Computer Country General! From reviewing the chart, the condition is “guarded”. It is amazing how we become so dependent on these machines.

I would like to commend Ruth for the wonderful job she does for the Club. The newsletter is just one area. Thanks to you Ruth, not only from me, but from everyone in the Club!!!!!!!

This article, hopefully, will be intentionally short on purpose due to my current computer condition.

The KCQ Music fest was another success. Thanks to all members who attended and helped. The following worked very hard and worked as a team: Stan & Ruth Bentley, Terry & Carol Jozwiak, Bill & Ada Hoard, Dick & Nyla Lebsack, Leif Johnson & Melissa Morris, Gregg Glaviano, Tom Volpe, Dominic Glasgow and Gary Strappazon. The Board has decided to have the Club be involved with KCQ again next year if we are asked. The “Saginaw News” reported the attendance was 100,000. There were 214 entries in the car show. KCQ presented our Club with an appreciation award for our work. We will have it at the July meeting and the summer picnic.

June 28th the Board met. The major topic was our annual MCMM show. Things are progressing well. Stan is doing his usual good job.

Our Club will have its annual summer picnic on Sunday, August 1st at 1:00 pm at the Satow Pavilion in Heritage Park, Frankenmuth. This is at the very north end of Weiss Street. This will NOT be in place of our regular monthly meeting, but IN ADDITION. Hopefully, we will have good weather and a large turnout. What would be exciting is if we saw some faces we have not seen in a while! Bring a dish to pass and your table service. The Club will furnish the meat.

The Board will have another Board of Directors meeting on Monday, July 19th at 6:00 pm. This will be held before the regular membership meeting at Mancinos. All members are welcome to attend the Board meeting. They will not have a vote and will not be able to have anything on the agenda unless they have contacted a Board member prior to the meeting to ask to have an item put on the agenda.

Lastly, as a reminder, the “Be Cool” car show is in Bay City on Saturday, July 10th and Sunday, July 11th. Have you seen one of the three billboards on I-75? Also, don’t miss the Friday night cruise on July 9th. It departs from the F.P. Horack building (the old Sears building) in Bay City at 5:30 pm for Bay Valley.

One last thought in closing. I have had discussions lately with Club members regarding the Club’s focus. Is there interest in local shows, or national MCA shows, restorations and related topics? Let me know what ideas you have. If anyone needs flyers to take to a local show or a cruise, let me know and I will see that you get them.

Gary
