Tips/Comments

By MCMM Member Quentin Levitte

The telephone rang and I checked the number, yup it was my friend and fellow Mustanger, Chris Jansen calling from the dealership.  His first words were “can I put a Mustang in your garage?”  I said “slow down Chris, when did you get another Mustang?”  He answered “just today the boss gave me a ’68 coupe and he wants it moved pronto.”  That started the ball rolling.  Later that evening Chris and his friend Jerry backed the trailer up to my garage door and pushed the ’68 off the trailer.  When the old coupe came to rest there was a trail of rust leading to the spot formally occupied by my Envoy.  Up to this moment the ugly little coupe had spent eight years sitting behind the old State Police Post in Caro.  When the Post was closed the Chevy dealership bought the land and consequently the old “clunker” became the property of the owner of the dealership.  When he got tired of looking at the eye sore he gave it to Chris.

Over the next week I took off the doors, hood and trunk lid.  Chris would come over in the evening and give encouragement and advice.  The next day I would try to do things that he had requested.

The first thing that sold was the seats . . . $100.   That put a smile on Chris’s face.  Next were a couple of bolts holding the glove box door, another $10.

Later, Chris brought over an engine hoist and we will pull the engine.  Maybe someone in the club can use the old “289”.

As time passed Chris would come over and we would take parts off the car.  Each part was like a walk back in time.  Under the carpet, where the rust bugs had yet to attack we found beautiful maroon paint and a perfect set of bolts holding on crusty seat belts.

The old ’68 still sits in my garage, we are not done taking it apart yet.  But with every part taken off the friendship between an older generation Mustanger and a younger generation Mustanger becomes stronger.

Chili Potluck: Dick Lebsack is hosting this event.  It will be at the Midland Community Center on Saturday, February 10th from 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm.  Bring a dish to pass.  There is a $5 charge per family to cover the cost of the room.  Swimming is available at an additional cost.  A map is enclosed in this newsletter.  For more information contact Dick at (989) 631-9536.

Mustang Cookbook: Dick Lebsack brought up the idea of a Mustang Cookbook.  The plan is to have it ready and available for sale at our MCA Car Show in 2009.  There was some interest.  Kathy Jansen has had some experience in this field and volunteered to help.

Meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted, Diane Williams, Secretary

THE PREZ SEZ

Happy Valentines Day!

Spring is just around the corner.  Baseball, hot dogs and car shows are coming soon!  To help you get in the mood for summer, your MCMM is sponsoring the chili potluck and an afternoon swimming session on Saturday, February 10th from 12 noon – 4:00 pm.  Bring your famous and favorite crock pot of chili, a small dish to pass, $5 for room rental, your family, some Mustang memorabilia to swap or trade, a swim suit and come to the Midland Community Center in beautiful Midland.  A map to the Community Center is located in the newsletter.  Please call me if you have questions and for reservations: (989) 631-9536.

We are changing our site for our 2007 car show in September.  It still will be in Birch Run, but at the Birch Run Expo Center instead of the Prime Outlet Mall.  We have outgrown the mall location.

The MCMM BOD is submitting the club’s application to the Mustang Club of America for a National car show in 2009.  Our plans are to have the National car show the first weekend in June of 2009 in Frankenmuth.  This should be fun, exciting and challenging to put together a National car show.  The BOD feels our club is up to the challenge.  “High Ho Silver Away!”

Plans are underway to travel the Mission Peninsula in Grand Traverse County for the next northern pony cruise.  We had a good time last year and the members that went want to do it again.  The dates are June 22-24, 2007.  We will stay at the Maple Lane Resort Motel on Glen Lake.  We stayed there last year and the rent of the room for the night is the same as last year, $89 per night.  Put these dates on your calendar.  More information will come in future newsletters or call me for more information.

I am looking for a few good volunteers from the ranks of the membership to chair tow small projects.  The projects are the summer picnic and the Christmas party.  This club is known for its members to step-up and volunteer their services when asked.  So if you and a fellow club member are interested in contributing and helping the club, give me a call and I can give you more information about the projects.  Many of the events and activities that your club provides can always use help.  You are being asked for your help, please consider your contribution.  I know you will enjoy it and meet some of your fellow Mustang members.

Last month I forgot to mention another great web site in the newsletter.  MCMM member, Ken Bayard has his own Mustang web site.  It is a super site for much Mustang information.  Here it is: www.michiganmustang.com and this is Michigan’s Mustang Headquarters.  Also you can check in with Ken at Ken@michiganmustang.com.

Just a friendly reminder to get those membership dues in to: Gary Strappazon, MCMM Treasurer,

P O Box 324, Frankenmuth, MI  48734.  Please include your name, address, telephone and e-mail.  It is the best $20 you will ever spend this year.  It opens so many opportunities for fun and enjoyment.

Keep smiling,

Dick Lebsack

NAME THE 2009 MCMM NATIONAL SHOW CONTEST

By Charlie Reinhardt

Here’s something that might be right on track for a MCMM club member with a creative mind! We are looking for a “name” for the 2009 National MCA Mustang Show that we hope to host.  Here is what you have to do: First, you must be a member of our club, then, come up with a “catchy” name for the show that could hopefully tie into the 45th Birthday (1964-2009) of the Mustang, or Frankenmuth/Little Bavaria or even Michigan and the MCMM.  Get your entry to either Gary Strappazon or Charlie Reinhardt by mail, phone, e-mail or hand deliver at a meeting.  Make sure to have all your information with your submission.  We will have the Board pick a group of “best bets”.  These possible names will then be submitted to the Club for voting.  The entrants names will not be identified during the voting process, so not to sway any votes!  The winner will have their Mustang used on any promotional, souvenir items, logos and other show associated materials!

Here are examples of names being used for the National shows in 2007:

Mustang, OK                 Oklahoma Centennial Mustang National

            Louisville, KY               Mustangs Unbridled

Concord, CA                 Wild West Mustang Nationals

            Springfield, IL               Prairieland Roundup

Good luck!
