TIPS/COMMENTS BY STAN
This is the time of year that I like to talk about brakes. The brakes, especially in older cars need at the very least annual attention. The big enemy of the braking system is moisture. I bleed the braking system on our cars every year. That way most of the moisture that has accumulated over the year will be flushed out with the old fluid. There are several things that can go wrong with the brake system such as the fluid being low, old wheel cylinders or calipers that have rusted from not being used. In more extreme cases the brake lines, both hard and flexible can deteriorate from age. This spring I plan to replace all the lines on our ‘65 car. The car is 40 years old now and when they were built they were made of steel which can rust and become weak. When applying the brakes if your car pulls to one side you have a braking problem. When you release the brakes and the car still wants to pull to one side there is also a problem. From all the Mustang supply houses you can buy the steel lines that are pre- bent and go on fairly easy. You can also just go to the local auto store and buy the steel lines. When doing this you must have a tool that puts on the special ends, called flanges. We all like to think of our Mustangs as going fast but we must also be sure that they can stop.
I would like to welcome all the new members and say that I am sorry for the ones that have fallen through the Administration cracks. We do make mistakes, but hopefully we can learn from our mistakes and become stronger.
Remember don’t be a stranger.
I live in my own little world. But it’s
ok. They know me here.
When I was young we used to go “skinny dipping”, now I just “chunky dunk.”
If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

THE PREZ SEZ
Dick Lebsack and I took the tour bus trip to the North American International Auto show and had a very enjoyable time. We were VERY impressed with the Ford Display. Naturally, we found the Mustang display simply great. A red convertible was on display. It will be available in the summer as a 2006. The information we hear is that new 2005 Mustangs ordered now will be delivered in June. The delivery time in the South is about a month sooner. Apparently the plan is to get them as soon as possible to where they will be on the road the soonest. There were several after market manufacturers of 2005 Mustangs shown there, including Roush, Saleen and Steeda. These were some of the same Mustangs that were first seen at the SEEMA show early in November in Las Vegas. The auto show was featured on NBC with the full compliment of NASCAR TV crew on Sunday, January 23rd. That has never been done from any auto show in the LIVE before. We are very blessed to be only 1-2 hours from the venue!
We are also aware of
the Great Pony Drive 2005 is now a reality. It will visit the Auto Alliance
Factory and then go to Superior Ford on Gibraltar Road, where pre-ordered
2005 Mustangs will be delivered at special X-plan pricing or about 2% under
invoice to registered Pony Drive Participants who have chosen to purchase a
new 2005 Mustang. The production begins on Sunday, June 12th for completion
on Monday, June 13th. From there, the participants will caravan to the MCA
National Show at Kansas City, KS. Our best understanding is that only 101
new Mustangs are available…order yours soon. This is once again coordinated
by Dave Turnball and Rhonda Dripps from Florida. We are also told that the
regular Mustang badging will be replaced by special badging. You can get
complete information at www.ponydrive.us
Speaking of bus trips, we are looking at a bus trip to tour the Rouge Plant.
The tour could possible include a trip to the newly remodeled Greenfield
Village and recently updated The Henry Ford, formerly Henry Ford Museum.
More information will be available at the February meeting.
We are scheduled to do our usual judging at the KCQ Musicfest at Ojibway
Island on Saturday, June 18th.
We are planning a group trip to Autorama…the annual Rod & Custom Show at
Cobo on Saturday, March 5th. We have the following names penciled in: Chris
Jansen, Mike Winter, Leif Johnson, Rich Svatora and Gary Strappazon. Sounds
like a fun group to me! Anyone is welcome, the more the merrier. For once, a
car show that we don’t even have to wash a car!
Dick and I also have accumulated some interesting raffle prizes. See you at the February meeting.
Gary Strappazon

Burma Shave
For those who never saw the Burma Shave
signs, here is a quick lesson in our history of the 1930’s and 1940’s. Before
the Interstates, when everyone drove the old 2 lane roads, Burma Shave signs
would be posted all over the countryside in farmers’ fields. They were small red
signs with white letters. Five signs, about 100 feet apart, each containing 1
line of a 4 line couplet….and the obligatory 5th sign advertising Burma Shave, a
popular shaving cream.
