Tips/Comments   By Stan

Our sympathy & thoughts go out to Rose Maier & her family.   We will miss Jim & his big smile.

I was reading a car magazine the other day {what else} and they were saying that if your tires are five years old they are out dated and should not be used.  All of my tires are five years old and what am I saving all those tires in the shed for?   I thought that I might need them someday.  Now I will have to pay 2 to 5 dollars a piece to get rid of them.  Fat chance of that happening.  The tire industry has changed over the years, and it seems that we have chosen not to keep up with all the information printed on our tires.  When we need a new set we just go to the tire store and the price seems to get the most consideration. There is a lot of information printed on tires.  The problem is it is in small print and is a combination of letters and numbers, sort of like a code.  It tells us when the tire was made, tread wear and grades.  It also gives information regarding temperature, inflation pressure, speed rating and the size.  All this information is required by the Department of Transportation {DOT}.  The next big thing is nitrogen in tires.  No car manufacture is using nitrogen as standard equipment at this time.  I say that someday all new cars will come with no spare.  I just want to go 70 miles per hour and feel safe, so the next time I need tires I will probably just ask the price.

A big thank you to Diane Williams for hosting the summer picnic.  We were not able to attend but I understand the weather was great and a good time was had by all who were there.

There are some people who have signed up for the MCA but have not received their membership number and Mustang Times magazine.  While at the Springfield Show I talked to Mary Jean Wesche (she takes care of new subscriptions) and she assured me that it would be taken care of.  If you still are not getting the Magazine let me know.

A big thank you to everyone for the contributions to the club to allow us to be eligible for the Presidents Award.

I hope to see everyone at the activities and shows that are happening this summer.  Please do your utmost to attend our September show.  This will be at the Expo Center in Birch Run.   This is a new location and I am sure that there will be some challenges.  It is always amazing to see the “setting up”, the “show” and the “tear down” go so well.  It takes some work but with lots of help it always is fun.

Remember don’t be a stranger.

MCMM REGULAR MEETING 07-16-07

Meeting called to order by President, Dick Lebsack.  The new meeting place at Captain Hooks in Frankenmuth worked really well.  We had a count of 33 members.  We welcomed back some old friends and said hello to some new friends.  MCMM now has around 94 memberships.  Those attending were: Diane Williams, Dick Lebsack, Gary Strappazon, Charlie Reinhardt, Cynthia & Paul Wrigglesworth, Chris Jansen, Lon Hetchler, Leif & Melissa Johnson, Mike & Rebecca Winter, Bob & Gina Dillenbeck, Stan & Ruth Bentley, Bill & Ada Hoard, Kathy & Jim Jansen, Linda Kabobel, Tom Welsh, Linda & Gary Riley, Quentin & Pat Levitte, Rose & Jim Maier, Judy Van Sickle and daughter.

Treasurer’s Report: Report read by Gary Strappazon and approved.

Property Report: Gary Riley reports same as reported on June 18, 2007.

“Be Cool” Car Show: The Cruise organized by MCMM had 195 cars.  Charlie Reinhardt and Lon Hetchler did a great job with the cruise.  Saturday was a bit rainy.  Club members gathered in the Club’s trailer (that’s a use we hadn’t considered) until the rain stopped.  After that they went on with the show.  MCMM members won four awards.

MCMM Summer Picnic: Diane Williams reports everything is set for the picnic on Saturday, July 21st at Silver Lake City Park, 16095 Jennings Rd, Fenton.

MCMM at the Great Lakes Loons Baseball Game: Dick Lebsack reports that 100 tickets have been set aside for our club.  It is Sunday, August 5th and is called “Turn Back the Clock Day”.  The cost is $8.50 per ticket and $3.00 for parking.  The money needs to be collected in advance.  Send your check to Dick Lebsack, 609 Wanetah, Midland, MI  48649.

Frankenmuth Autofest: The dates are Friday, September 7th through Sunday, September 8th.

MCMM 2007 Car Show September 16th: Dick Lebsack reports that we are in the process of obtaining tables, chairs and a tent.  We are also in need of door prizes and items for the raffle table.  Lon Hetchler will try to supply us with chairs.  Members should bring their own lawn chairs.  The names of the people pre-registering for the 2007 show will be put in a drawing for a Mustang jacket and CD changer.

MOCSEM Show Judging: Quentin Levitte reports that he has a list of members that have volunteered to help with the judging.  He will have a meeting place and time to travel to the show reported in this newsletter.  Ruth Bentley reports that MOCSEM and MCMM did a “dual” flyer mailing this year.  We sent flyers to them to be included in their mailing and they sent flyers to us to be included in our mailing.

2009 MCA National Show: Charlie Reinhardt reports that our request to host the show has been approved.  Everyone present at the meeting received a list of the suggested names for the show.  Each person could vote for no more than three names.  When the tallying was completed the winner was announced.  It is “THE GREAT LAKES STAMPEDE” submitted by Dave DeSilva.  Congratulations Dave!

MCMM Nominations: Dick Lebsack asked for volunteers to be on the nomination committee for the 2008 Board of Directors.  The committee members are Lon Hetchler, Quentin Levitte and Dick Lebsack.

SADDLE UP FOR THE AUGUST 12TH MOCSEM CAR SHOW AND JUDGING

If you are interested in going to this show or you have volunteered to be a judge at this show, let’s all meet at the McDonald’s at M-59 & M-23 at 8:45 am.  We will drive down as a group to the MOCSEM show site at Greenmead Historical Park in beautiful Livonia, MI.  As a judge I would like you to please wear your MCMM name tag.  I’ll furnish the pens, stickers, scoring sheets and rules we will be following to judge.  I’m guessing that with 12 judges and four main classes we can do this in just a few hours.  For those that will be judging I would like to say you’ll get a free something or other but you won’t.  I do think we will have a great time and see some great cars.

See you at 8:45 am on Sunday, August 12th.

“BE COOL” CAR SHOW & AWARDS

The “Be Cool” car show is history.  The cruise on Friday night was just a lot of fun.  The weather, people and cars made it a perfect night.  There were over 200 cars driving along the 11 mile route.  Thank you Charlie & Lova Reinhardt and fellow Mustang Club members for all the help that weekend.  We had about 31 members and families at the cruise and the wet and rainy car show.  A total of 306 cars were registered for the weekend.  Congratulations go to Dale Rondo, Lon Hetchler, Chris Jansen and Paul Wrigglesworth for winning a “Be Cool” car show award.

TAKE YOUR MUSTANG TO A LOONS BASEBALL GAME

Baseball, hotdogs, apple pie and Mustangs.  On Sunday, August 5th, the Great Lakes Loons Baseball is sponsoring “TURN BACK THE CLOCK DAY” at the Dow Diamond in Midland.  This is a family fun day!!  Bring the kids, grandkids, friends, relatives to the Dow Diamond for some exciting events.  Between innings they have kid’s events and give out prizes.  There is also a kid’s playground.  We have 100 seats by third base for $8.50.  There is not a bad seat in the Dow Diamond.  Members and friends can still bring your cars and park them in the parking lot.  Our club name will be featured on the giant scoreboard.  This is a great way to get the club exposure and some excellent PR.  As far as I know, we will be the only car club featured that day.  Pay me for your tickets and the club will write one check to the Great Lakes Loons.  The Loons need to know if we are not able to use all 100 seats so they can open it up to the public.  This game will be a sell out.  Let me know how many tickets you need by August 1st.  (989) 631-9536

MCMM ELECTION OF NEW BOARD OF DIRECTORS

YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE!

According to our constitution, a nomination committee was formed at the July general membership meeting.  The nominating committee consists of Quentin Levitte (989) 673-4514, Dick Lebsack (989) 631-9536, and Lon Hetchler (810) 793-6287.  The committee will present the nominations at the August 20th general membership meeting.  Positions open: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Chairperson, Car Show Chairperson, Newsletter Editor and MCA Regional Director.  The term of office is for 1 year.  Only a unanimous vote of the BOD, may a 2-year limit be exceeded and only if they are unopposed.  Here is a great opportunity for you to use your leadership skills to help your club.  Is it your turn to step up and help your club?  I bet you will enjoy the ride working for your club.  I know I did!  Some of these positions may be shared with a spouse.  Just think of the fun and satisfaction of doing a job well done.  Call one of the committee members for that great opportunity.  Who knows we might even call you!

Dick Lebsack, President

MCMM NEW MEETING LOCATION

MCMM will meet at the Captain Hook’s restaurant in Frankenmuth on August 20th at 7 pm.  This new location is the former Mancino’s restaurant.  The address is 175 Jefferson St, Frankenmuth.  Jefferson street is the intersection of Main Street and Jefferson, the first stop light south of the Main Street bridge.  A Mobil gas station is at this intersection.  Turn east for 1 ½ blocks and Captain Hook’s is on the right.  The specialty of Captain Hook’s is their fish.  Their phone number is (989) 652-9866.  We hope this facility will be more conducive for a more productive meeting.  The menu is reasonably priced.

MCMM RECEIVES MCA PRESIDENT’S AWARD

Your MCMM club received the Mustang Club of America President’s Award.  This was based on a total of 100 points or more.  The points are given for various activities, events and charities that the club participates in.  We scored much more than 100 points and received the award at the July meeting.  Congratulations to everyone for your contributions to your club.

JAMES F. MAIER

June 24, 1941 – July 24, 2007

It is with great sadness that we report the passing away of

fellow club member Jim Maier.  Jim and his wife Rose joined

our club in July, 2004.  The Maier’s have been a great asset to our club.  Jim and Rose could always be counted on to attend the club functions and help out at our annual car shows.  Jim loved his Mustang and was especially proud of the “Best of Show” trophy he received at the “Be Cool” car show in 2004.  He will be greatly missed by all.  Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his wife

Rose and her family.

MCMM CAR SHOW 2007

Yes, before you know it, our car show will be here.  Summer is going fast and furious.  We would like to see all of our club members at the MCMM car show at the Birch Run Expo Center in Birch Run on Sunday, September 16th.  This is our biggest event for generating funds.  Rich Svatora has agreed to be the head judge at the car show.  He is looking for judges to help judge cars as they enter the parking area.  This is a fun activity and you really get to see these fantastic cars up front and personal.  You do not need to have any experience to help work at the car show.  Also, Gregg Glaviano will need some help in directing the parking of these great classic cars and general help in all areas.

One other important item is to have each member bring an item for the door prize table.  Some suggestions are cans of car wax, brushes, auto wash, glass cleaner, etc. but I am sure if you use your car sense you could come up with hundreds of ideas.  Visit any car parts store, Wal-Mart, K-Mart for other ideas.  Suggested price is between $4 and $10.  Another idea would be to have several members pool their money together and purchase a large prize to be used on the raffle table.  The raffle table is a great fund raiser for the club.  This is how many of the clubs sponsor their car shows and get their prizes – they ask their members.  Bring them to the next meeting so we have an idea of how many prizes we have or need to get.  By the way, you can even ask a business for a donation.

Dick (round up the prizes) Lebsack

MCMM SUMMER PICNIC

I want to thank Diane Williams for hosting our summer picnic in Fenton.  We had a very nice turnout.  In addition to the 19 members and their families in attendance we had the following new members join us with their Mustangs: Rod Clay Sr. and Mary Jo Clay, Dave Clay, Rod Clay Jr. and Kerry Meyers, Alan & Jeanne Haskell, Carl, Lisa and Julie Pearson.  Thanks to Ada Hoard for providing the games.  The weather was great and a good time was had by all.

Dick Lebsack

WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE 2007

As of this writing we have 35 cars registered for Mustang Alley on Saturday, August 18th.  Registration was near capacity so if you haven’t registered, check soon at www.motorcityterminators.org/mustangalley to see if there are any spots left.  Plans are in place for our 2nd annual Caravan to Woodward.

We will be meeting at Joseph Ford in Grand Blanc, MI which is east of I-475 and north off Hill road on Ali Drive (see attached map).  There is a Speedway gas station on the corner of Ali and Hill and a Club sign will be posted on the corner.  Plan to be there by 6:30 am.  There will be a brief driver meeting at 6:45 and we will depart for Mustang Alley at 7 am.  This should get us there by 8 am.  It is important to remember that we need to stay together as we go through registration so we don’t have any gaps and then we will get to park together.  More detailed information will be available when we gather at Joseph Ford for the caravan.

For those who are meeting us at Mustang Alley, there is a CVS Pharmacy on 9 Mile road east of Woodward at the entrance to the event.  Wait for us there and you can join the caravan as we enter registration.  Please let me know if you are registered for the event but plan to meet us there.  The parking map on the Internet will be updated August 1st.  The current map on there is from last year and it will be changed.

For any questions, help with registration or additional information you can reach me at (810) 953-0542.
