TIPS/COMMENTS

BY STAN

A big thank you to Quentin Levette for writing this article for the last two months. This is your newsletter so if anyone would like to submit an article you are more than welcome to do so.

An article from Hagerty Insurance says:

27% of us learned to work on cars from our family.

31.6% of us are involved in national clubs and 24% in marque clubs.

90% of us attend car shows, though most of these are close to home.

65% of us are buying vehicles

24.5% of us are selling vehicles.

20.8% of us sell our vehicles to family or friends.

Those of us with the Fox body cars (1979 to 1993) may experience the clouding of the head lights.  What I did was get some Comet cleanser and a plastic scrubber from under the sink.  With the scrubber and Comet take a little water and gently clean the headlights.  I would not try this on the newer cars with plastic over the lights.

Those with the older cars that experience over heating, it could be caused by not having a wire spring in the bottom radiator hose.  You can now just get the spring.  Contact Cobra Automotive, Dept.MM, 37 Warehouse Rd., Wallingford CT. 06492.  203-248-3863    www.cobraautomotive.com

A renewal came across our desk from Dennis Martin. I did not know this but he has eight Mustangs.  How does a person get eight Mustangs?

There are many activities scheduled for our club. Hope to see you at as many of these events as possible.

An interesting site is:   http://cars-on-line.com/index.html    Lots of for sale cars here.

I almost had a psychic girl friend but she left before we met.

ASK STAN

AL WESOLOWSKI – I have a 1969 Mustang convertible with drum brakes.  I want to convert my car to front disc brakes.  I am only finding old Granada, Maverick or Comet parts or a complete aftermarket kit on the Internet for about $600.  Any suggestions?

STAN – I think I would go with a new complete kit.  The Granada parts will still need rebuilding.  I have seen those ads on E-bay and other places.  I also want to put disc brakes on my ’67.  Let me know how you make out.

MCMM REGULAR MEETING 03-19-07

Meeting called to order by President, Dick Lebsack.  There were four BOD members present with a proxy from Stan Bentley.  Those attending were: Charlie Reinhardt, Gary Strappazon, Diane Williams, Del Zimmerman, Quentin & Pat Levitte, Dale Rondo & friend Tina, Jim & Rose Maier, Gary Riley, Tom Welsh, Mike Winter, Linda Kabobel and Bob & Gina Dillenbeck.

New Member: MCMM was pleased to welcome new member Dale Rondo.  Dale has two classic Mustangs that he has spent a lot of hours working on.  Welcome, Dale.

Treasurer’s Report: Report was read and approved.  Quentin Levitte recommended that the membership be presented with a 2007 budget proposal, using past expenditures as a guideline.  This is a very good idea and the board will act on it immediately.

Property Report: Gary Riley asked about the four new Ford signs.  Gary Strappazon had them at the meeting.  However, we were so busy he didn’t get a chance to show them.

Membership: We are pleased to receive three new memberships to the club.  MCMM looks forward to welcoming these members.  Please try to participate in as many MCMM activities as you can.

Historian: Lova Reinhardt is looking for photographs from the chili party that was held in Midland.

Club Merchandise & Clothing: Deanna from Coupar Creations, an embroidery business in Frankenmuth will attend the April MCMM meeting.

Cargo Trailer Signage and Sales Tax: Although we are a non-profit organization we have been informed that we have to pay the sales tax of $310 and license plate of $75 on the cargo trailer.  Hagerty Foundation Grant for MSP Mustang: Del Zimmerman reports that this is a grant from Hagerty Foundation that supports the education for the different trades that young men and women participate in.  This will provide funds for the work that these young people do on the car.

MCMM Advertising: The membership has approved the proposal that Tom Welsh developed to present to prospective sponsors.  We hope this will make the process of getting sponsors easier.

MCMM Car Show: The charity for this year’s show will be The Children Wish Fund.  There was discussion on how we will fund the charity.  A suggestion was made that the funding be a percentage of the profits.  Something to think about.  It was approved to increase the pre-registration fee to $15 and the “day of” registration to $20.  It was decided that all the pre-registered names would be placed in a drawing for one of three prizes, which include: 2 denim jackets with the Mustang logo and a home stereo with 5 CD changer.  “Day of” registrations will not be in the drawing.

MCA National Show and MCMM Car Show: It was decided that in the year 2009 MCMM will host the national show and also our annual show.

2009 MCA National Show: MCMM has submitted our proposal to MCA.  Charlie Reinhardt and Gary Strappazon will attend the MCA National show in Oklahoma on April 20th.

Open House at Hardcore Racing: MCMM has been invited as a club to attend their Open House in May.  They are located at G-5200 Clio Road, Flint.  Their telephone is: (810) 787-2960 and their website is: www.weracehardcore.com.  Add that date to the MCMM May calendar.

Show and Shine: On May 19th at the Saginaw Valley Ford, Bay Road, Saginaw we will host the Show and Shine.  For information contact Ron Loudenslager at (989) 792-1700.

Northern MI Pony Cruise: The dates are June 22-24 with lodging at the Maple Lane Resort Motel.  The cost is $89 per night.  Telephone (231) 334-3413.  More details to follow.

Bavarian Festival: The dates are June 8-10.  Gary Strappazon will have more information later.

Be Cool Car Show: The dates are July 13-15 in Bay City.  MCMM will be in charge of the car cruise on Friday, July 13th.  Charlie Reinhardt needs volunteers, call him at (989) 891-0414 to help.

Woodward Dream Cruise: The cruise is August 17-19.  Mike Winter has contacted the people in charge and will have more information later.  For those that are interested we will arrange to cruise back to Flint for “Back to the Bricks Under the Arches” car show.

MCMM Summer Picnic: It will be held on Saturday, July 21st at the Lake Fenton City Park on Lake Fenton.  There will be a pavilion, playground, beach with roped off area with a lifeguard.  If there is interest a cruise could be planned to cruise around Fenton to Holly and back or around the lakes in the other direction.  Map to follow.

April Meeting: The April meeting will be Monday, April 16th at the Bavarian Inn at 7:00 pm.  Go around to back of the Inn to the Tower entrance.  Go to the elevators and push “F” for lower floor.

Dale Rondo talked about his cars.

Meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted, Diane Williams, Secretary

THE PREZ SEZ

Some great opportunities for members to gather around a great car are coming in May.  Get these dates on your calendar now!  Saturday, May 12th, the Hardcore Racing has an Open House in Mt. Morris.  They offered a special invitation to our club to bring our cars for display.  Door prizes will be given.  We hope to have them as one of our sponsors.  Their address is: G-5200 Clio Road, telephone (810) 787-2960.  On Saturday, May 19th, is our Show & Shine with Saginaw Valley Ford on Bay Road in Saginaw from 10 am-2:30 pm.  Ron Loudenslager is in charge and he can be reached at (989) 792-1700 if you have any questions.  The registration is $10 and all the registration money will donated to the Saginaw County Veterans Memorial Plaza.  We have given over $1,000 to this great non-profit organization in the last 2 years.

The club logo should be on the MCMM cargo trailer by the April 16th regular club meeting.  The sales tax and plate fees have been paid.  The trailer should be at the Show & Shine on May 19th.

Deanna Barcomb of Couper Creations will be at our April meeting to show off the new MCMM logo clothing.  If you have an item that you want to have our logo on, she can do it.  If you would like just the Mustang logo, a Mustang horse or our club logo she can do it on a jacket, sweatshirt, shirt, hat or polo shirt.  She put a Mustang logo on my cloth magazine rack that holds my Mustang magazines and it looks great!  She is the official supplier of club clothing and the prices are reasonable.

According to the March 12, 2007 issue of the Detroit News, Ford plans to offer a “Warriors in Pink” trim package for the 2007 Mustang.  The summer promotion is to help raise money for breast cancer research and attract new buyers to the Mustang name plate.  It will only be available in a V-6 but customers can opt for a convertible or a hardtop.  It will feature pink stripes on the exterior and pink contrast stitching inside.  A couple of colors will be offered, including black.  Pink will not be one of them.  Some of the profits will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

We still have room for 3 more cars and members to join us for the Grand Traverse and Old Mission Peninsula Pony Cruise on the weekend of June 22-24.  We will leave the Holiday Inn parking lot in Midland about 2 pm and arrive at the Maple Lane Resort a little before 6 pm.  We have the same special rate as last year at $89 per night.  The Saturday cruise travels to Traverse City and to the Old Mission Peninsula to see the sights, enjoy a meal, observe a lighthouse and visit some wineries.  We had a great time last year touring Leelanau County.  Call me for more details at (989) 631-9536.

IN THE HERD SPOTLIGHT

This time we meet Dale Rondo and Tina Last of Midland, MI.  Dale is a new member of our club and is also a member of the Mustang Club of America.  He owns 2 Mustangs.  The first is a mid 90’s model, green with white stripes (he didn’t give any information on it, just a picture!”)  It looks to be well-modified, including a flip forward hood, quarter window scoops and other body modifications.  This car has won various awards.  But his pride and joy seems to b a 1970 Mach 1 that he has cloned into a Twister Special.  This includes the burnt orange paint and decals that were specific to these models.  The car has a 351 Cleveland engine and has won 4 Best of Show and 4 Best Engine awards since he completed the work on the Mustang.

IN THE HERD SPOTLIGHT

Meet Alan and Jeannie Haskell.  They were married June 19, 1998 and live in Fenton, MI.  As Al says, “Though Jeannie grew up in a ‘Chevy’ family where Fords were not to be mentioned, she always secretly wanted a Mustang.  As a ‘Ford Man’, I made sure she got her wish!  The car that she received, a 1966 coupe with a 289 2bbl and automatic transmission was purchased as a Christmas gift without her knowledge on 10-30-04.  Al had to borrow the money from his father to cover his tracks since Jeannie keeps the books and would surely find that purchase!  Power steering was installed to make it easier for Jeannie to drive.  The car also received all new sheet metal and was painted Candy Apple Red by Soja & Sons Collision in Argentine, MI.  The seats were re-upholstered by Schultz & Sons in Flint, MI.  The car also has a white vinyl top and styled steel wheels, making for a very striking combination

NEW SPONSORSHIP FORMS

At the March regular MCMM meeting, those in attendance were introduced to a new form for signing up sponsors.  This is for obtaining sponsorships all year for the newsletter, website, trailer sponsors and show sponsors.  These will bring in much needed revenue for future events and donations to charities.  As our club expands, we will need to have this revenue for other necessary costs, such as trailer insurance, larger newsletter, increased postage, increased show costs and unforeseen costs.

There are three different levels for the show sponsorship.

v      PLATINUM (best value)

v      GOLD (better value)

v      SILVER (good value)

Each level allows for an addition of sponsorship for a trophy group (at additional cost).  Remember too, that we can always use items for goody bag stuffing in addition to the sponsorships.  Last year we needed enough items for over 300 bags and this year we want to do 350 or more!

We also have sponsor spots available on the trailer, which will be visible at club events, traveling to and from events and whenever else is possible.  The trailer will be in many different cities and locations so this would be a great selling point for us! Think of all the places where we participate as a club….

And don’t forget the website and newsletter, these may not bring in as much per sponsor, but we can always fit in another spot.

So if you know of a possible sponsor, approach the person or company.  You may find that they are looking for a way to get the word out about themselves, and what better way to help them and help us too!  If you need a sponsor sign- up form contact one of the board members or Tom Welsh at (989) 777-7225.  Tom is our new Sponsorship Program Specialist & developed the sponsor form.
