TIPS/COMMENTS

BY STAN

It has come to my attention that our club will not be needed to judge the KCQ summer fest that is held in Saginaw on Ojibway Island. They apparently have decided to go in a different direction. This means that we will not have the fun of judging the car show part of the show.  We also will not get the free advertising of our show that we usually get.  This is not the end of the world for us as a club.  The world is constantly changing and we must change with it.  We will have plenty of other advertising for our show.  We also have plenty of other events where we will get lots of exposure, and maybe our calendar was getting full for the summer anyway.  I think that we should concentrate on the Show and Shine in Saginaw and the “Be Cool” show in Bay City for more of our advertising.  Also, if we redo the State Police Mustang that should give us the right exposure we will get lots of interest and advertising.  When we show up at a function in large numbers with our cars people take notice.

At the April monthly meeting I would hope that everyone could drive their Mustang, weather permitting.  Come a little early and maybe we can kick a few tires and just hang out.

I am looking forward to the June trip to Leelanau County with our Mustangs. It will not only be fun, but we should see plenty of good scenery.  If you have a CB radio please bring it, we will have plenty to talk about.

Remember don’t be a stranger.

I love being married. It’s so great to find the one special person that you want to annoy the rest of your life.

I am a nobody, and nobody is perfect, therefore, I am perfect.

I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

THE PREZ SEZ

Well Nyla and I are just completing our month in sunny AZ.  We have had a variety of weather temperatures.  It has been a fun month.  I checked the classic car section in the Sunday Arizona Republic.  Sample: 66 Must., conv., 6 cyl., at, ac, $12,500 firm.  65 Must., conv., 289, 4-speed, nice car, $7,950.  77 Must., coupe, body excellent, $750 obo.  And lastly, a 64 Ford Galaxy 500, 2 dr., HT, 289 also 68 Must., 302 many new parts and clean title, $1,700 obo.  If nothing else, it was great reading.

By the way, I just received my new Auto Events Calendar for 2006.  It lists auto shows, swap meets and cruise nights for MI, OH and IN.  Call Cindy Sanchez at (517) 782-1708.  The cost is $8.00.

While in AZ I met with Gregg Glaviano, our chairperson for our car show at Birch Run on September 17th.  I plan to see him again at the Copperstate Mustang Club car show on March 25th.  This should be a big Ford and Mustang Show at Earnhardt Ford.  I hope to pick up some good ideas and check out how they use their trailer.  I am looking forward to the event.

I received an e-mail from Charlie Reinhardt.  He was in charge of the March 20th club meeting and forwarded information about the meeting to me.  He said the MI State Police (MSP) Mustang car passed club inspection with the condition that the committee is to review costs and donations.  Some donations were pending the club’s acceptance of the MSP project.

At the April 17th club meeting, we will select the charity for our show.  The spectator fees we collect will be donated to that charity.  We will also be celebrating the 42nd birthday of the Mustang car.  Be sure to be there for the voting on the charity and some good tasting birthday cake!

By the end of April, we should have the final count of the members and guests who will be going on the Leelanau County Pony Cruise June 23-25.  We will stay at the Maple Lane Resort Motel. You must call for your own reservations at (231) 334-3413.  The cost is $89 per night.  A Friday night campfire is planned.  Saturday is our travel day around Leelanau County with great picture opportunities for you and your car which include a covered bridge, sand dunes, beaches, lighthouse, eating, great companionship and a great car.  If you don’t have a Mustang, bring your second favorite car.  Call me at (989) 631-9536.

Keep Smiling,

Dick Lebsack

It was brought to my attention that I failed to list the telephone number for ordering from www.LatemodelRestorationSupply.com  and www.50resto.com.  They are the same company and the telephone number is 1-866-507-3786.  Their hours are 8 am – 6 pm Monday thru Thursday, 8 am – 5 pm on Friday and 8 am – 2 pm on Saturday.  These times are Central Time so that is one hour behind us (5 here, 4 there).  You must call them for the discount and mention that you are a member of MCMM.  Once again, if you have a problem getting the discount, our contact is Brad Taylor.  I am sorry for this oversight and hope it didn’t cause any problems for anyone.

IN THE HERD SPOTLIGHT

Hmmm, a red 1965 Mustang GT convertible…..a dream to most, but Gary & Linda Riley  have realized that dream!  Gary is the club’s property manager and Linda is the social chairperson.  They have been married for over 38 years, they live in Clio and have 2 adult children, Sonya in Arizona and Nathan in Mt. Morris.  But the Riley’s two children at home include (as Gary puts it “Linda’s” car) a red 1965 Mustang GT convertible.  It’s a beautiful car with white pony (deluxe) interior, power top, power steering, full console, automatic transmission, dual exhaust and a coveted “Rally Pac” (clock and tachometer).  Another item included in the GT package but not listed on the tech sheet are grille fog lights.

Gary’s Mustang is a light blue V-8 1965 coupe.  The only 3 things Gary was willing to share with us here is that the car has a full console, rebuilt engine that burns unleaded gas (but don’t they all now!) and the car was originally sold new in Tampa, FL with Gary being the third owner.  I guess we will have to ask him for more when we see him.

Gary is active in local township politics, serving as the chairman on the local parks and recreation board.  In his other personal time he likes to walk (averaging 40 miles a week!), roller skating (Seriously, Gary we have seen you walk, are you sure you want to try to convince us you skate?), vacationing in Arizona or Florida and volunteering Linda to committees!

IN THE HERD SPOTLIGHT

This time we get to meet Dick & Nyla Lebsack, married for 25 years this June 26!  They live in Midland, MI and Dick is the current president of our club.  They have 2 children Eric (southern CA) and Lisa (Midland, MI).  Dick is also on the “Be Cool” Car Show Committee in Bay City.  Though they only listed car related activities as hobbies and interest, they do like to talk to people and will take the time to do so, especially Dick.

Dick’s first Mustang was a 1965 red coupe with a simple 6 cylinder and 3-speed transmission.  Though it was a “basic” Mustang, he must have fallen in love with the breed.  His current love is a 1966 candy apple red convertible with a white top.  It has a 289 cid engine with an automatic transmission, fog lamps, steel styled wheels and tinted windshield and he is always adding to it.  He has even gone as far as putting together a drive-in style food tray that he displays with the car at shows.  He states the car has toured Leelanau County by Sleeping Bear Dunes, west of Traverse City, but I’m sure he leaves a lot more out that he tells!  Just ask him.  Prior to Dick owning the car, a GM dealer sales manager owned it!  See, even they have good taste.
